I got a pair of ON maternity jeans from eBay for just a few dollars. Best money I EVER spent! After that I bought one more, nicer pair from Motherhood. Other than that, I wore a lot of ON tshirts in one size up. I was gifted a gap maternity shirt I loved and wished I had bought more of earlier in pregnancy.

@LazyLightning: ha ha, this was me too! I was in them from 8 weeks preg and now at 12 weeks pp am still in then, even with having lost three stone, because I put on so much weight and still have a stone and a half to lose. Sigh.

weird, i posted something earlier today using my ipad, but now i don't see it.

anyway, i'm 20 weeks right now, and one of the OBs in my group mentioned that i'd need maternity pants soon. i like to change into jeans during the day to get myself into work mode, but since i work at home, i never actually have to wear outside pants.

i guess i'll see how i feel in the next few weeks or so.

Even with leggings, you'll need maternity by the end I would think. BUY THEM NOW! They will last the whole time...you'll need them after, and you'll be so much more comfortable and happy.

I got a lot of stuff at the Motherhood outlet. Cheap!

I tried the bella band with my pants for work, and although it *worked*, it wasn't comfortable, because I sit down and stand up all day long (I'm a school librarian), and the bella band had to be adjusted with each stand up/sit down cycle, and it's pretttty awkward always adjusting your pants in front of middle schoolers.

So I bought 3 pairs of maternity pants at Macy's--all Motherhood brand, all skinny styles, and I LOVE THEM. They are the type with the spandex-material panel, so they aren't gappy at all, even if you aren't pregnant. My SIL gave me some maternity hand-me-downs from Old Nacy, but they don't fit me at all yet--the panel from those is made of a more knit material, so it's really huge and gappy on my belly right now.

But again, I *heart* the maternity brand skinny pants. I got a pair of jeans, too. And I got 2 of them on clearance for $18 dollars each. The other two at full price were only $30 each, so that's way cheaper than my normal non-preg clothes, and I don't tend to keep clothes too long anyway. I use, abuse, and then throw away about a year later. heh.

No way. Hated that freakin' bella band and couldn't wait to get the stretchy pants. Besides not wanting to spend the money, I'm not sure why you would want to avoid them. Unless you are really tiny, you are going to be out of most regular dresses and leggings by 7 months. Maternity dresses and leggings still cost money and you get way more wear out of the jeans & pants. I just stopped wearing the low rise band Gap jeans & cords that I had a few weeks ago and my son is 10 months old :). Trust me- it's worth the investment.

I'm almost 35 weeks now and I think I could have gotten away with not getting any maternity clothes period. If I could reverse time, I would definitely get LESS stuff, even though I don't think I bought too much. That being said, maternity pants are the one thing I've worn the most out of all my maternity clothes. I bought 2 Bella Bands and 1 is still in the package. A lot of my jeans and pants would suffice with just the rubber band trick. If you can get away with wearing yoga pants and yoga leggings a lot, you can probably do without maternity pants. I wear my Lululemon bottoms equally, if not more than my maternity jeans and maternity leggings. That being said, 1 pair of black maternity leggings from Old Navy or H&M are probably a good investment and so cheap! Also, 1 pair of maternity jeans from Gap or Old Navy are probably a good investment too (esp. if you plan to have another). They both always have pretty good sales (30-40% off). I wear 2 main pairs of maternity jeans about 1/2 the week (and leggings the other half). If I were heavily pregnant in the Summer or when it's warm enough, I'd probably do without the jeans and just get a pair of leggings. You can live in dresses in the summer!

I thought I could get away with 3 pairs of maternity pants (1 borrowed, 2 purchased), but I feel super lucky that my mom just bought me 2 more pairs of pants. I'm just about 19 weeks and haven't been in most of my regular pants since probably 11/12w. I still have 2-3 pair of low rise regular pants that I can still deal with for most of a day, but I couldn't stand the bella band!

I needed to switch to maternity jeans for comfort so early. I found having my pants undone and a bella band extremely uncomfortable. I only bought 2 pairs of jeans, and 1 pair of dress pants and the jeans were basically destroyed from 6 months of only wearing them (I am a nurse, so I am in scrubs when I am at work, so I didn't need dress pants for daily use).

I had gained a little weight prior to conceiving so all my trousers were too tight when I got my BFP. So, by 8 weeks, nothing was wearable and i had to invest in my first pair of maternity jeans. Well - I loved them!! I bought another pair two weeks later and then today I bought a third pair (maternity cord trousers)!. I've bought more maternity clothes than I bought regular clothes in the last few years pre-pregnancy!!

At 38 weeks there is absolutely no way I could get in a pair of my pre-preg pants! I love my maternity pants. They are so comfortable I'm actually dreading going back to regular pants... haha. Most women don't bounce back immediately, so you'll likely still be able/want to wear your maternity pants after baby arrives. You can find comfy and cheap pants at Target and Old Navy -- so worth the $20-$25!

I went to consinment shops and got Maternity pants/clothes. Like you said they are worn so little so they were practically new and a fraction of the cost of new.

I'm a jeans-and-tshirt girl, so maternity jeans were a must for me. I bought a pair of dark skinnies and a pair of medium-wash boot cuts, both at Old Navy, and wear them all the time. Every once in a while I wear leggings but once I stopped being able to reach to shave my legs, these have been difficult (since they ride up a bit at the bottom), as have dresses, skirts, etc. (which I don't love wearing anyway). I bought my first pair of maternity jeans at 8 weeks.

I'm still early on (12w,4d) and have invested in 1 pair of maternity pants, and holy cow are they comfy!! They don't dig in like regular pants. However, I'm trying to prevent purchasing too many maternity clothing so I'm still wearing my regular jeans with the help of a rubber band. So far, I'm okay.

I only wore Old Navy maternity jeans. I hated other maternity pants. I wore the pants I'm wearing now with a belly band until I couldn't anymore. Since LO was due in August, I spent my spring and summer in dresses because they were way more comfortable than pants.

I bought maternity jeans because I wanted to be able to wear them out to dinner, etc. but aside from those, I wore regular leggings and lululemons through the end of pregnancy. So it's definitely doable! In my opinion the jeans were worth it, even if I only wore them for 5 or so months.

hahahah, my regular pants wouldn't fit over my thighs and butt after i was about 10 weeks. Not only have I bought maternity pants, but I've now bought 3 sizes because my bottom half just.keeps.growing. My non-maternity dresses are all borderline too tight in the belly too and I have a little over 17 weeks left to go. So my answer is no! ;)

I hate spending the money too, but I also feel like crap if I don't look decent when I go out in public (like to work). So I'm having to come to terms with it being worth it for my self-esteem.
