@bluestriped bee: DH went to the SHG, and I'm pretty sure he regrets it! The room was rather small and his chair was not placed very well. He's way more familiar with how a speculum works than I think he ever wanted to be.

Overall I didn't think the procedure was too bad (it hurt like a mother when they put the catheter in, but at least it didn't last very long) but holy hell the cramps afterward were terrible for an hour or so.

One side was totally open. The other was slightly hidden by a cyst, but they could see bubbles going through (though maybe not as fast as the other side)

I had 2 of them and it wasn't so bad. Similar to an HSG. For me, I just had to make sure to tell the dr not to use any iodine solutions because I've had a allergic reaction to the iodine before.

@MaryM: DH did not go to my HSG or SHGs.

@MaryM: My husband didn't attend either of mine, but it would have been fine with me if he had.

follow up question...did your husbands go with you? was it weird for them to be in there?

DH has been to other TV USs, but I wanted to make sure it wouldn't be awkward for him to be there.

I just had this done last week. I didn't feel a thing (compared to the HSG which was a little painful/crampy). I definitely was leaking a lot after though (fluid, not blood). My dr actually found a fibroid that I had no idea about and was not seen on the HSG.

@MaryM: I had one! It's not super fun but definitely doable, and FAST. I think I took an ibuprofin ahead of time like they told me to, then they inject the saline via a tiny catheder and the whole thing was over in 5 minutes. Obviously anything being inserted into your uterus does not feel good, but it was fine, all in all. They found my fibroid this way, I had it removed, and now I am pregnant! (2 cycles after the surgery). :) Good luck!!

Does the leaking continue long throughout the day (should I make sure I have pads on hand after I'm home)?

I've had it done twice as well. It's a relatively quick procedure, but it is a bit uncomfortable. I had some mild cramping and spotting after mine. It is a strange feeling when they put the saline in, but I can't say that it's painful. Just weird. Oh, and it's messy! The nurse should give you a pad afterwards because you'll leak for a little while.

I've had 2 of them and hardly felt them. It probably helped that they were being done by my RE as part of the lead-up to IVF (and a FET). I hope yours is similarly easy! They will usually recommend that you take some ibuprofen beforehand.

I had one after 2 miscarriages. They inject saline in your uterus which is a bit uncomfortable and then do an ultrasound.. I had some cramping afterwards.

. Dr saw what he thought was a polyp and led to having a hysteroscopy. During which he removed both the polyp and previously unseen uterine septum.

It was all worth it as my 4 month old is sleeping on me now. Best of luck

So, after 14 months of not getting pregnant, I'm beginning to slowing dip my toe into IF interventions. My doctor is starting with an sonohysterogram with FemVue next week

From what I've googled, it's similar to an HSG, but with saline and bubbles instead of dye. And my doctor can do it in house instead of me having to go to a hospital (which also makes it cheaper)

Just to ease my anxiety, I wondered if anyone could share any SHG experiences.
