I'm a bit anxious because my Plan A is to give birth in the Birth Centre. You have to go home within 8 hours- though obviously not if you have any medical complications. As scary as that is, it's my Plan A because:
If, for some reason, I do end up getting admitted to the recovery ward... well it's a shared large ward and my husband isn't allowed to be there except 10AM to 8PM. So say, I have the baby at midnight and get admitted... he's allowed to help me get settled for a few minutes and then has to leave!
"Here, meet your son... now come back at 10AM" I just seems wrong.

Ummm, no time to be bored, you'll have a newborn to look after! As pp have said it's a nice time to relax and most importantly recover. I didn't feel like doing a lot. Having a shower, getting dressed - major achievements!

I liked my stay, we were admitted Saturday night, he was born, and I got released late Monday afternoon. My husband stayed Saturday and Sunday on a couch in my room (decently comfortable). Cam was released a day later due to high bilirubin, fortunately the hospital had a "nesting room" where I could stay the next night right next door to the NICU so I could nurse him every 3 hours.

We brought a ton of things to do, but ended up only using the hospital TV, our laptop with the hospital's wi-fi, and the kindle.

I was very much ready to be discharged just because I am not used to not being able to come and go as I want. The time there was nice though to relax, and overall I consider it a very positive experience.

I loved my stay! It was my first time in a hospital, too. All I heard before giving birth was how wonderful it was there (Greenwich Hospital in CT). And it was all true. Everyone I talk to who has given birth there practically did not want to leave. It seems weird to rave about a hospital stay but I definitely rave about mine.

And there was no time to be bored. I was there for 48 hours. You'll be recovering/sleeping, trying to breastfeed ALL the time, telling people your news, etc. The time went by quickly.

I hated my hospital stay. DH stayed with me, but we had been up for 36 hours so the first night after ds was born i let dh sleep. I finally sent ds to the nursery to sleep and after 20 mins ( at 1 am) a toddler banged into my dark room. After she was retrieved ds came back screaming. I slept maybe 1 hour in the 24 hrs after ds was born and requested to leave early. I was soo happy to be honest with DH and my parents. Ds slept in 3 hr chunks the night we got home and my stroking was up with me to help at each feeding. DH sleeps like the dead so he didnt get up unless i needed help.

I'm amazed by how many of y'all loved the hospital stay. To be honest, I pretty much hated it and couldn't wait to get home. Maybe it's because I was recovering from a c section? I had to wear a blood pressure cuff that took my blood pressure every hour, so I never slept for more than an hour at a time. I brought my iPad and my room had wifi, but I barely used it. I was either busy with LO or trying to sleep the whole time.

Definitely not looking forward to it. I'm having twins and have heard a lot of twin mums here saying it can be hard to get help, in the few days post partum, with breast feeding twins as midwives and nurses are so busy. At least with one baby you can lift it up yourself and keep working on the latch on, I think two babies requires an extra pair of arms to get organized each time:)

I liked the hospital stay besides for the lack of sleep. Nurses kept waking either me or baby up. But everyone was really nice.
My husband didn't stay, we live 5-10 min from the hospital and looking at where he'd have to sleep I wanted him to go home because one of us needed to be well rested (and we have dogs at home). I had my laptop but didn't go on it much (I'm glad I had it though). Not much time for boredom after baby is born.
My mom and one of my sisters and husband were there a lot and I had a few visitors. It was nice to have the visitors in the hospital because people tend not to stay long in the hospital and any responsibility of hostessing isn't there.
When I was in labor all of a sudden I didn't want to go to the hospital, I'd never been to a hospital for myself and in labor I donno I just didn't want to go, but I was pleasantly surprised at the stay.

I have no idea! I don't know what my hospital's stay policy is yet (we haven't had our orientation yet and I've only known c-section momma's). I don't think I'll worry about it, I plan on enjoying it while we're there with experts.

I was induced on Tuesday but didn't give birth til Thurs and went home on Sat. I really enjoyed my postpartum stay...the nurses were so helpful and the time flew by. My husband was able to stay in the room as well. We watched TV, had visitors, napped, etc.

I had no time to be bored! My hubby did stay with me, and I was so busy with lo, tons of visitors, and nurses constantly coming in for me and lo. Our hospital has a optional family nap time for two hours a day when they won't let visitors or nurses in. That's the only rest I got.

I was there Thursday - Monday. LO was born Friday and we had to stay because of Bilirubin Levels and Light therapy. We watched a lot of TV between visitors because she was under the lights for so long and could only come out every 2 hours for about 30 minutes. I was dying to get home.

i loved the hospital stay but if you don't like being there you can ask to be released early. if there are no complications they may let you go home early. my friend who had an older kid at home and really wanted to be in the comfort of her own home was let out after like 24 hours or so.

Most people I know stay in the hospital for 3 days when they have a baby. I kinda feel nervous thinking about sleeping in a hospital room. Hopefully it will work out in such a way that my husband can stay with me too, but still what did you do to keep occupied? Or were you so tired that you slept most of the time.
