We started CDing the day after his cord stump fell off. DS was 9 days old. I had a bunch of different diapers - 3 Grovia NB, 2 Swaddlebees NB Simplex, 2 Lil Joeys, 1 Kissaluvs, 1 BG NB (I think the one I had is discontinued), 6 NB pre-folds, 1 Rumparoozs NB cover, one Thirsties XS cover, and 3 Applecheeks size 1. I was doing laundry every night. After two weeks, we started using just pre-folds. We were having some issues with pee leaks because DS had skinny legs, plus some were repelling (long story). DH wanted to use just the pre-folds because you can wash the heck out of them and they still work. They are also the cheapest option.

At 3.5 months, we have 21 pre-folds and 6 covers - 5 Rumparooz and 1 XS Thirsties. I do laundry every other day. I keep 1 Kissaluvs in the diaper bag and 1 at home as back-up.

We started CDing once the nubby fell off around day nine. She was 9lbs 9oz at birth so we skipped the newborn diapers all together and went straight for the BumGenius pocket diapers. They fit her well and we never had any leaks, BUT we did have to size up on the pants. We had/have 15 Bum Genius Flip inserts and 15 Bum Genius pocket diaper inserts, and about a dozen shells. I try to wash every other day so that the stink doesn't build up, but I ended up buying two extra BG pocket diapers because I wanted a little extra washing buffer (and truthfully, I really dug the new colors). They've really served us well!

Also, once she got a little older (around 6 months) we started using Honest Co. throw-aways for night time because we weren't sure if her night wakings were related to wetness. Now that she's sleeping through the night, I don't want to test out that theory...but! If anyone has a good recommendation for a good nighttime diaper, let me know!

All in all, CDing has been great for us! We're over a year in and I still love it. (Which sounds weird when you're dealing with pee and poop, but you get my drift)

My story is pretty much the same as @FutureMrsMcK: except we had 30.

Lo was always a big girl so right when she outgrew newborn disposable diapers at 2 weeks we were able to go straight to cloth.

@Minnie_Girl: only occasionally, and all but once at night. The one time it wasn't at night he had fallen asleep nursing on me (kind of lying across my chest/stomach).

Following this thread...LO is going on a month old, over 9lbs and I think she's almost ready for our OS BGs!

@FutureMrsMcK: Did they leak all the time at first or only occasionally?

We did! We did a cloth diaper rental in newborn size, and then sent that back once DD grew into her one-size diapers. I can't remember how many we had. Maybe 20 inserts, but only 6-ish covers. We were doing laundry almost every day at that time, so it wasn't a big deal to just throw the diapers though the wash.

We started at about two weeks. We used gdiapers, still do. I had about 16 inserts to start, and eventually got a lot more.

We didn't start CDing until LO was about a month old, but we went through 8-10/day at that point. I'm a frequent changer. Go with GMD prefolds! They're the BEST!

We started with a mix of cloth and sposies from the day we got back from the hospital. It was really just whatever I grabbed :)

DS passed all of his meconium before birth so I didn't have to worry about the staining. We had about 24 infant-sized prefolds and 4 covers (Bummis size S and Thirsties size XS) He weighed 7 lbs so they were a little big the first few days. I actually got 6 preemie PFs and they fit perfectly.

We still use the infant sized PFs today and he's nearly 2. Once he got too chubby for them to be snappied around his waist I just started pad folding them inside a cover. I use them inside a GroVia shell along with Swaddlebees All-in-One diapers.

For #2 I plan to use the same PFs but have at least 6 covers. This time I want Rump a Roos Newborn covers. I'll also get 6-8 Swaddlebees All-in-One Newborn Diapers (these last to 16 lbs) for convenience.

We started at 2 weeks old (after his umbilical cord fell off) with OS AIOs (the BG Freetimes). We started with 18 and I was washing them every day. My MIL bought us another 6, and I'm now (at 5 months) washing them every 1.5-2 days. Even though he was over 9# when we started he leaked when he peed (his thighs were skinny enough that there was a small gap in the leg openings).

We went with the easiest, laziest CD method, because I knew it would have to be super easy to sell DH on it (we both LOVE it, btw).

I did a cloth diaper rental for the newborn sized diapers and started cloth diapering at 3 days old. I chose Kissaluvs fitted size 0 with Thirsties covers XS. We had 20 diapers and 5 covers in rotation and did laundry every day to day and a half. That was the first 5 weeks I believe.

I hope to CD from day 1 and have slowly been putting together my collection of NB and size 1 diapers. Right now I have some AIO and a few covers--I have yet to get prefolds. If you cloth diapered your newborn, how many diapers did you have in rotation? And, was there a particular brand or system that you preferred? Thanks!
