@JMOM: they said to alternate hot and cold and to come back next week. I guess they can surgically drain it if it's not getting better.

Sorry you experienced one after your surgery!

I've had a hematoma- but not after birth. Mine was after a laprascopic gall bladder surgery. They are not comfortable. What did the Dr. tell you to do? Did they recommend heat or cold? I truthfully don't remember what mine recommended, but if it isn't getting any better I would call the dr office again.

So despite this being my 2nd baby and not having an epidural while pushing, I came away with more stitches than with DD #1. :( I had 4 second degree tears and a mediolateral episiotomy. My doctor said she had to cut the episiotomy to prevent a 3rd or 4th degree tear.

Anyway, I was really sore for the first day or two, but the pain was manageable. Then I started feeling a ton of pressure on my stitches and felt a large bulge on the side of my episiotomy. I was in so much pain, I asked for a doctor's appt to have my stitches checked. The OB I saw said it was a hematoma, a blood filled space.

That was a couple days ago and I don't feel like it's gotten any better... Maybe worse. I am 6 days pp and can no longer sit up right at all, even on a donut. Between that and cracked bleeding nipples from breastfeeding, I am in a world of hurt!

Anyone experience this??? How long did it take you to feel better.
