@Honeybee: Oh dear.

@glimmersnaps: Interesting idea thanks! He is drenching his sheets with drool these days so I keep wondering about teething.

Today instead of trying to get him to go back to sleep we got up for the day and played. He went down very easily for a nap at 7:05 (1:45 after wake). I hope he does more than a 30 minute nap or it will be a very long day around here!

I'd say it could just be a sleep regression or teething. Sometimes when they learn something new their sleep is disrupted. DS used to crawl around the bed in his sleep when he was around 8 months old. It was just a brief phase.

Another thing I've heard is that exposure to early morning sun can help re-set their circadian clock. I think it need to be like around dawn, but it seems like you're up then already. It might be worth trying a few morning walks!

@Honeybee: yikes! He's been doing this off and on for a week. Today it was 520 am. I go back to work in a week so a 6pm bedtime will not be possible!

I let LO remain in her crib until 6am. If she's still up, I will get up and get her. If she's not fussing or crying, I'll let her stay in her crib until it's clear she wants out.

@winniebee: No, he was still doing his normal 2 naps! Which meant he was done napping for the day at about 2:30/3, which meant I'd have to put him to bed by 6, but then he'd be up at 5... Just a couple days ago, without me doing anything different, he suddenly switched back to getting up later. I don't know what changed, honestly, but I'm so glad it did!

Omg, DS just went through this! For 2 (3?) weeks DS was getting up at 5 am. It was killing me! All of sudden, he switched, and the last few days he's been sleeping in until 6/6:30 again. He did have two new teeth pop through, so I think that was part of the issue. Unfortuantely, I don't have any other advice on how to get your LO to sleep later except "wait it out." :(

C wakes up and I let her chill in the crib until she forces me to come get her. I wont go get her until 7:30. If she wakes up before then, she lays there and talks to herself.

Our daycare wake up time is 6, but sometimes she is up between 5-5:30. It sucks on the weekend!

UGH! Me too. :( Same deal, wakes up cooing, will not go back to bed. If I leave him, he starts screeching. AND it doesn't matter when he goes to bed. It started when he started going to bed earlier and earlier and the 6:30-7 became 5something-6.. and now we put him to bed later last night and the night before... 5 15am.

I have no clue what to do about it. I am exhausted. He is fine and dandy.
And... he will probably be different in 2 weeks, for daycare.

@winniebee: she's the same way. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Let him rise when he does and he'll figure out the morning nap. M will fall asleep in her carseat on the way to daycare sometimes and I will just leave her in it when we get there. Or, I'll pull her out and she will be WIDE AWAKE and not take another nap until after her first bottle.

@mediagirl: I guess I'm fine with that wake up time generally, but I have no idea how I'll make it work with daycare? It doesn't open until 7 a.m. and his usual first nap is 1:30-1:45 after wake....I suppose he might be doing something different in 2 weeks when he is there full time.

I've just been letting her coo and play in the morning when she wakes up happy. Of course, it doesn't last long these days because she's on her belly and can't flip to her back when she wants to... :/

My son used to get up around 6:30/7. Lately, it's 5 a.m. regardless of whether I put him down at his usual bedtime of 7, or later (like 8) or earlier (like 6:30). I would say it's b/c of a cold, but honestly he's been doing it for at least a week or two. He CAN sleep later because he did it over the weekend (he slept til 7). He's 5 months.

I went for an earlier bedtime last night (6:20) and it backfired and he woke up 2 additional times overnight (he usually wakes once) and then was up for the day at 5.

When he wakes at 5 he coos and is not crying. Now, I've tried letting him just hang in his crib and see if he falls back asleep. He doesn't. I've tried going in and feeding him right away and seeing if he will fall back asleep - he will fall asleep for like 30 seconds and then be awake. Regardless I always leave him in his crib til 6.

Anyone else dealing with an early riser? Or did you deal with it? How did you get your baby to sleep a little longer?
