@Maysprout: This is pretty much what I've found with all 3 home warranty companies. Despite paying an arm and a leg for the warranty, they don't cover full replacement. Candidly, I'm impressed they are even offering a 1/3.

We had good experience with ours. Our Realtor bought us a one year policy when we closed, and two months after we bought the house, the ceiling above our pantry started to leak. They sent someone out to take a look and ended up replacing a huge section of our roof.

Keep pushing and they'll continue to give. Hopefully they'll man up and cover the whole cost!

I literally just called our warranty company about our a/c. We'll see how it goes, but I'm super frustrated at the moment because they won't expedite the repair request since the high today is only 94 degrees and not 95 degrees or higher. I really hope everything is not going to be a fight with them!

@Maysprout: What the heck is "abnormal wear" for an a/c unit anyway????

We used them to fix a gas leak, they did in fact fix the leak but they would not do anything to fix the walls that were cut open to fix the leak. Said they only covered the leak, not "cosmetic" repairs. We reported them to the BBB and did not get anything out of that either, but it's worth trying (they always get notified of any reportings and sometimes try to rectify the problem to make you remove your report).

We did, and they were mostly useless. Our sewer line backed up 10 days after we bought the house (yes!) We called a plumber, then their packet of info arrived. We called them and they were like "you have to call us first." We told them we hadn't even received the info yet, and they still said we had to go through them (even though they use the same company we had called.) They refused to pay over the phone, even while they acknowledged that there was no way we could have called them. Anyway, we ended up sending a pretty forceful letter and got some money in return. I'd keep pushing if I were you.

@BakerBee: They're only offering a third of the cost of the AC unit. There's some ins and outs but in a nutshell they're saying this is abnormal wear from the previous owners so isn't covered and our side is we asked about that before purchase and did everything they asked us to to get the units inspected in the way they wanted so they'd be covered.

We did! Keep pushing!!!

The vent over the stove broke so we called to get an estimate and sent it to the Home Warranty Company. They denied the claim because they said the vent was made in Italy. We sent them to a link to Home Depot and said "It was bought at Home Depot in the USA, we don't care where it was actually built".

They said the would cover some

DH said nope -I want it all

They said they would talk to the manager.

Manager gave a little more

DH pushed again

They finally gave in and reimbursed us the $265 -

It wasn't a huge claim but it was the point of the matter - what good is a warranty if they don't cover broken stuff!

So, if you really want it covered don't back down!!!!

Yes, I have! Which company? I have always had good experience with the ones I've worked with, but it tends to be company specific. A lot of people don't realize that they often won't replace things that break (the main reason they are bought is for the replacement of A/C units), they will usually just give you an amount of money towards the replacement. What's broken?

We recently moved and one was included with the house. Now that something broke though they're being a huge PITA. We got our Realtor involved too since we had him ask them lots of questions prior to purchase. Their offer of what they will pay is really lousy, so I'm not sure how far I want to push this thing but at the same time we have emails from them contradicting what they're saying now.
