I tried one month and couldn't keep up with it. I used OPKs and that was it. I couldn't even chart that, so I just went by the digital OPK monitor.

@simplyfelicity: are you and your DH able to BD EOD until you get your AF? Because then you don't have to know when you O since you'll always have some sperm in there to catch the egg... Sorry for being graphic. Charting is good for people who don't want or can't BD that often so they have to catch the fertile days.

Unfortunately TTC is super stressful no matter what you do. You can't unlearn what you already know. The trick is to remember that it's only a 30% chance of getting pregnant each cycle and that's if you do everything perfectly so don't think that a bfn means you did something wrong...

@NerdBee: Thanks! You have made me feel a lot better. Based on last month's brief success (I will still stressed then, too!) we were just going to repeat what we did. BD ED from cd 12-17. But here I am at CD 15 with no O symptoms that I can tell. I don't mean to be gross, but last month I had so much fertile CM on this very same day (and the day before) that it was super obvious. Funnily enough, I wasn't even monitoring CM really and just used OPKS. I wonder if it's like waiting for a watched pot to boil. I am guessing my CP and stress threw things off more than I expected. You are right, I need to trust my body more. It has a lot more wisdom than FF (though it is helpful!)

ETA: Sorry, I realized that I repeated a lot from my previous post! Thanks for your help!

@simplyfelicity: it is stressful when your body doesn't do what you expect. It helps me to ignore FF and just listen to my body. Stress will definitely delay ovulation for me. When I was TTC LO1 I was charting and knew that I did not even ovulate in the first cycle that we TTC. I tried to relax for the next cycle and we conceived! So don't count yourself out yet just because your body is not giving you the signals that you expect.

I"m glad I charted in the beginning. I learned a lot about cycles in general, and my how my own body operates. For someone new to TTC with a regular sleep schedule, I would recommend it. It can help you learn a lot about your cycle.

But it did start to get stressful, mainly during the TWW. I would start the day feeling so anxious to look at that number and try to determine what it meant. Then I would find myself wishing it was bedtime already so I could wake up the next day and see my temp. It felt like a crystal ball that could give me clues about being pregnant.

So when I laid my charts out for my RE (who really didn't care), and she said it was clear I was ovulating and I could retire the thermometer, I did just that!

@MrsMccarthy: It's hard to explain because I don't want a break from TTC, just from the obsessiveness that I have had...I am guessing that's what you mean. I am a TOTAL control freak, too, which is why this is so hard for me because I overanalyze to oblivion.

I have been pregnant twice. The first time, we were on clomid, but I did not chart and we just BD EOD and now we have a happy, healthy 2 year old. The second time, we were not on clomid and we BD EOD and were pregnant for 9 weeks, then I had a miscarriage. We have been TTC ever since (August) and I've been on clomid for some cycles and charted all of the cycles and nothing. So, this cycle, I stopped charting. We'll see if that does the trick!

@NerdBee: I have been tracking CM this cycle and I find it super stressful too because according to FF, I should be O-ing today or tomorrow but I am pretty darn dry. Last month, I had a lot of CM on this cycle day and confirmed O through OPKS. I am not sure if my CP or stress threw off my cycle or if mine just naturally varies, but it doesn't look good right now. I either O'ed already or it is far off. It's pretty frustrating and I find I think about it and worry constantly, which makes me wonder if I should just BD EOD. Ugh...this sucks.

With my sleep cycle, temping wasn't good for me. OPKs were unreliable. As for CM, I just didn't feel comfortable determining if it was EWCM or sticky or whatever it's suppose to be. Also, I would have watery CM, right after Ovulating and I don't think that's common.

Though now that I was finally diagnosed with PCOS through my fertility clinic, maybe that's why the CM was all out of whack. I'm happy that my clinic can check where I am based off of ultrasounds and blood work.

@snowjewelz: I should clarify that I mean EOD but focus more on the middle of the month. For example, start E0D a couple of days after AF and then when I know for sure I am out of my window, then probably stop a few days before I anticipate AF. If EOD, that works out to about 9 times. That's doable.

@pui: I totally understand. I have never charted my period ever. I always figured I would get it when I got it and just wanted to make sure I always had a pad, etc. So, I think for some people, charting their cycle comes a little more naturally. I honestly am not even sure how long my cycle is, how much they vary (I am sure they do.) I do know that I am fairly regular. I have never missed a period. After the stress of my CP last month and the stress of TTC, I want to go back to being blissfully unaware.

At the very least I'd have to use OPK b/c we cannot BD EOD the whole freaking month! Plus my cycles were getting longer after BCP so that made BD EOD even harder! I was only interested in charting for FF to confirm that I O'd. When I got a BFP, I wasn't even charting at the end b/c I was away & I figured what's done is done anyway!

If it's getting to be way too much, definitely ease off the charting and just try to BD more often!

I used a fertility calculator based on my previous cycle, and used that ovulation date as a vague window, then would BD every other day for a week or two around that window. I never temped or charted or any of the other related things - I knew I would be WAY too obsessive with it, and it would stress me out too much. Got 2 babies that way!

@FliegepilzHut: This is my first month charting CM. I noticed fertile CM around O last month. I am right now "waiting" for fertile CM and my O date should be today. I had some of what I thought was EWCM (now I am not so sure....) so I have no idea if I O'd or not. Either its a few days off or already happened because of CM. Basically, I feel like this is so stressful and involved that it takes much more effort to do this and obsess over the details than it does to just BD EOD. Dh and I have no children and are still newlyweds, so it could work. I know this wouldn't work for other Bees and I admire that they can do this without getting obsessive...I just don't think I am one of them.

If you have the energy to BD EOD then that's probably the most fun way to TTC :) I charted for first LO but this time I am just tracking cm. I am lucky that I have fairly obvious cm changes so since this is our first cycle we are having sex whenever we feel like it and I'll make sure we BD when I get ewcm (which I am still waiting for!). Of course the cycle that we decide to ttc my cycle is off. :bummed:

I have been charting for the past 2.5 years and I always find it helpful to have an estimate of when my fertile week is, and when my period is due. Usually I will take an opk to confirm if those days are correct. However, I am temping right now and I hate it! It's way too stressful and I'm analyzing every single thing, I'm thinking that after my doctor's appointment next month I will go back to just charting without temping.
