@blackbird: the convenience food is what scares me. With four kids we rely on it a lot! But that's also why I think we need to make changes.

@Navy_Mommy: I also don't like the word "diet" I just didn't know what else to call it :) I am looking to try and make big changes for our family but I was just trying to figure out how to do it. I was also not a huge fan of their wording on their website. I am just trying to figure out whether just eating real food is enough or whether I should go the paleo/primal route.

@BeachMama: keep me posted on how it goes!

For those of you who tried it, did your whole household do it or was it just you? I cook for my family of six plus my parents and my mom is going to be a hard sell but of course if I make dinner she can't really argue. But she always brings junk food in the house which drives me crazy!!!

I'm considering doing it to avoid much more weight gain during this pregnancy. If nothing else, I'll do it after I have a milk supply established after the birth. I have a ton of friends who have done it, some multiple times, and they always talk about how good they feel. On one hand I feel like it'll be a little easier for me since I'm already gluten free and after 3 rigorous rounds of the HCG program, I know I have the willpower, but on the other hand, it feels like I just got done with an extremely restrictive diet and I'm just starting to feel comfortable with my new non-glutinous grains, even just a month feels very overwhelming.

I'm considering it after we get back from vacation with my family. I just need to hit the reset button on what I'm eating!

Doing it now! On day 3, and I was able to stay away from the box of donuts at work! . I think I'm going thru a sugar withdrawal as I've had headaches and am tired and cranky. But I do find that I'm staying fuller longer.

Here's hoping I make it thru the next 27 days!

I did a similar paleo challenge Jan 2010 and never stopped (except first trimester of pregnancy). I think it's worth trying.

I did it in may. It was great. To me it was a learning experience on what I take for granted (you have to read a lot of labels). I did look and feel better. I think it is great to try and see how you feel. I looked at it as a detox essentially.

I have a friend who has done it multiple times and she says it gets easier each time. She consistently eats primal though (like Paleo, only with dairy added in) so she isn't "missing much." I considered doing it, but a) I don't like "dieting." I like changing my lifestyle completely. If I tell myself I'm dieting until such and such time, I have a tendency to binge when such and such time occurs. B) I really didn't like how degrading the Whole 30 website was! The whole time I was reading it to myself I remember thinking, "wow, sorry I like to put a tablespoon of cream in my coffee. Holy cow, sorry I like to enjoy a dessert every now and again." It just really turned me off to it.

I did it last year and will be doing it again this fall - it wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be, although I do think knowing it was "just 30 days" helped with my discipline/willpower. Although I definitely didn't keep 100% of the healthy habits I developed during that time, the weight I lost still stayed off even after I went back to my "regular" eating.

Whole 30 is *huge* at my gym. I eat along the lines of the whole 30 philosophy (primal eating-paleo plus dairy) and it's been instrumental in me losing baby weight, having lots of energy, and not being bloated. I just generally *feel good*

it is hard at first b/c you lose a lot of convenience foods. Bread, peanut butter, oatmeal, burritos, etc. But it's worth it. I meal plan and prep a lot of food on Sundays so that my weeknights are not spent cooking. I also crockpot whenever i can and re-use the meat later in the week.

I have been at a weight loss plateau for several months. I got back into really bad habits and I was wondering if anyone had heard of or tried the whole 30? It seems like something that would really help and set me up for good habits. I am just not sure about my will power. Has anyone tried this or had any success with it?
