My best friend has the 3 hatchback, and it's pretty much the only car we drive other than my mom's Chevy Malibu Maxx (which they sadly no longer make), and I LOVE it! We're looking to get a car this summer, and we're looking at older versions of the 3 since we don't have the credit to get a new one.

I have the Mazda CX-7 and I love it! Its a hatchback and has tons of room back there. I know there will be enough room for our stroller and anything else I need to put back there. It only seats 5 but that is perfect for us right now since we are only on our first baby. The gas mileage is decent, I commute to work about 45 minutes each way and I have to fill up once a week.

We bought a Nissan Rogue not long after finding out I was pregnant. It's a good small suv/large hatchback and the CVT transmission makes the fuel economy incredible. We just love it.

I have a Saturn Astra...which they only imported for 1 year. I love my car; super practical, great on gas, and very fun to drive.

BUT, since we're expecting, I personally refuse to put my child in the back...even with a car seat. I was rear-ended a few years back, and I feel like there just isn't enough extra metal in the back of hatches vs other cars/SUVS/minivans. I was hurting and in some major pain for a long time after, so I cannot even fathom having my baby injured if some huge truck or van would rear-end me again.

I have a Subaru Imprezza Hatchback that I love! I don't think I'll ever own a car without a hatch back again. It only seats 5 and I think is classified as a midsize sedan, but it's got just the right amount of room for us now. I would really like to get a Forester or an Outback Wagon next time. Something with a little more leg room and storage space.
I really like Mazda's and almost bought a Mazda 3 hatchback before my Subaru. I haven't looked to much at the Mazda 5 though.

I've thought about the Mazda 5 but I think we're leaning toward a Subaru Outback. I love the newest body style-less like a wagon, more like a small SUV.

I currently drive a Mazda 3. I drove a Mazda 5 home from DC as a rental car and I hated it! It was very big with not a lot of substance, yet it wasn't big inside. Definitely test drive to see if you like it. :-)

@aMohror: I bet it is! I agree! I feel a bit odd looking at a 6-seater when technically we are a 2-person 2-dog household right now! ha! But then you take into account work, siblings, travel, etc. It's kind of strange. Our SO's sound like they'd get along quite well, haha. My current car has been modified a bit, though I wouldn't let him do too much, haha. Next thing I get though I'm def letting him tint the windows first!

@AmeliaBedelia: Yes, I know indeed! It's frustrating for me right now because for my soon to be family of 3, why would I get anything more than a 5 seater? My husband is really big into modifying and after market car stuff too, so we wanted to do some changes to my car, but if I'm not going to be able to keep it.... :( It just plain sucks! This is my job now and I really need the room....Hmm...what to do, what to do!

@lemondrop: I have looked at those too and realllly like them!

@aMohror: Oh no! That is my main concern with getting only a 5-seater. But I'm not "ready" for a big SUV or a "real" mini-van with 7 or so seats, ya know? Well obviously you do know. Lol. Yeah they don't look huge and actually get pretty darn good gas mileage for something 6 people can fit in. Wow. It's about the same as my 2-door CAR!

@AmeliaBedelia: Haha that is funny! Right now it sucks for me because the family I am nannying for actually have 5 kids! I only have 5 seats so we can never all go together...luckily one of them is 14 :) But I really need to figure something out by when my baby comes! It's funny because the Mazda 5 really doesn't look that big compared to all of the 3rd row seat suv's. I think it would be great, who cares if you don't have kids yet!

I <3 my Subaru Forester! It definitely is not a large SUV, it isn't much bigger on the outside than my old Sentra, but has lots of space inside.

@aMohror: Too funny! I am a tutor/caretaker/nanny for 2 girls with special needs (learning) right now and that is my plan for the next several years, which may also include a baby of my own. Plus....I have 4 siblings. Lol. So a plus is that all 4 of my sibs plus myself AND SO could fit into a vehicle without borrowing my Mom's Suburban or driving SO's truck (seats 6.) Thanks!

I drive a Honda Civic Si and love it. Right now it's a little small because I've been hauling around 4 kiddos because I'm a nanny! I'm pregnant now though and it will fit my baby seat just fine with plenty of other room. For me it's a good size. Good luck on your search! Oh, and I was actually looking into the Mazda 5 as well before I got my car, I still am considering one because once my baby comes I can't haul all of the kids around...haha

@Leialou: I don't think they do either, I think he's just being very, "it's not a car, so it must be a mini-van." I really like them, I'll probably go test drive one soon!
Does your 3 have a lot of room?

I drive a Mazda 3. It's an awesome car. It gets great gas mileage. My husband loves hatch backs. I don't really think they look like mini vans.

So, again with the indecisiveness about buying a new vehicle. I know, I know.

I've changed what I want a tad bit - meaning I'm more open to new things. *pats self on back*

I currently drive a 2-door Toyota Solara Coupe. I love Zippy, I really do (she's fast, awesome, and was perfect for high school and college). But now that I'm a big kid, and my baby has quite a bit of mileage on her (she's a 2004)...and I need a 4 door SOMETHING like crazy, here I am.

I saw a Mazda 5 today and thought it was interesting looking. Then I found out it's technically a mini-van and FI made fun of me. :( <--- Mostly since I'd have a minivan and no kiddos. But it doesn't look like a minivan! *sigh* Anyway, I'm wondering....do any of you have one? Or have something similar? I'm open to pretty much ANYTHING with four doors that isn't a large SUV or "real" mini-van. We don't need that much room, we don't have any children YET.
