@catomd00: That sounds really nice! I'm going to have to try to make something like that.

@skipra: @tofuwad: I'd never heard of lotion bars before this thread, they sound awesome, I'm going to try to make some instead of a whipped lotion, as they sound easier to use. I love the idea of using cocoa butter so they smell like cookies - I've been dying to bake cookies for awhile, but resisting, as we really don't need the calories :silly: Seems like a reasonable substitute!

My SIL made me a sugar scrub that I'm obsessed with. I think it's just sugar, mint and coconut oil if I remember correctly.

@skipra: mine are just equal parts coconut oil, almond oil, shea butter (you can sub cocoa butter for this), and beeswax. I sometimes add the contents of one capsule of vitamin E and a few drops of essential oils. Just melt and pour into silicon molds. It's super easy.

@tofuwad: My sister made me a lotion bar out of cocoa butter and almond oil and I love it! It smells like a cookie. I wish I had more or knew how to make it.

@tofuwad: That's awesome! I've never heard of lotion bars before - definitely going to have to check it out - thank you! I've never tried oil cleansing - I usually just use water, or sometimes cetaphil - but I want to try that as well.

Good point on the whipped lotions - I was a bit worried they'd be hard to apply, so maybe just sticking with straight oil is best.

I spent years making lotions and skincare products because I'm very sensitive to scents and have crazy dry skin.

My favorite ever is lotion bars. I usually pour them into silicone muffin cups and store them in tin containers from Michaels. I love love love them because I have the driest skin. If I'm in a pinch I'll just use straight cooking oil as a lotion because I'm so dry it just absorbs.

And I use oil as a face wash and have loved it for years. It hasn't changed my skin I just like it because it's moisturizing and I have dry skin.

I've also made whipped lotions which I love but most of them need to be refrigerated and it makes them hard to apply.

I actually have gotten really lazy lately and just use coconut oil for body lotion and almond oil for face wash.

I'm also super cheap so I've never bought expensive skincare products but I do like my stuff as much as drugstore stuff.

I'm a newbie to the DIY skincare world...Until recently I've just bought products, but it's fun and not very time-consuming to make them (at least the stuff I've made; I'm pretty lazy), and it also seems nice - especially with TTC/pregnancy/small kids - to know exactly what's in your products, though I have no idea if the chemicals typically found in skincare products are as bad as they are sometimes made out to be.

Do you make any products? Do you like them as well as the stuff you can buy?

So far I've been using a face serum with a meadowfoam base and a bit of carrot seed, lavender, and geranium oils (diluted in total to 2%); a spot acne treatment with diluted tea tree and clay sage oil; and jojoba or almond oil for body, with a bit of lavender and neroli (expensive but divine) mixed in to fade scars. I'm tempted to try making a cocoa based body butter soon. I think these work as well as say buying origins face creams, which are much more expensive, but they don't work great if you want to put on makeup afterwards since the oil dissolves makeup.
