We have public preschool and pre-k, but it's not free, plus between needing extended day and after school care, it saves us absolutely nothing :bummed: . And we'll have LO2 going to the same school in November, and with 2 kids we'll get a 20% discount on DS.

@rachiecakes: thankfully, I'm fairly certain our daycare will provide pick up for after care services. That will be convenient since DD2 will still be in daycare!

@catlady: @pastemoo: certain districts are lottery. I'm glad ours isn't! I would be so nervous!

I was in this place a year ago. Our situation in our district is unique and it is lottery. It was very anxious times. The lottery was viewable by those impacted and since the district office is right across from my office I went not expecting much. So many parents. So many procedures. So much tension! All over Pre-K! It's exciting times.

Im waiting to hear about the lottery from the local project based charter school. I'm not sure if we would accept the spot but should hear this month if its even a possibility.

I am already nervous about this and my LO is only 2! We live in a city with a lottery, and the schools are all very different. The demographics are very variable (and with that, test scores, unfortunately), plus some of them offer things like extended day or language immersion, and some of them do not.

If she doesn't get into a school that we're comfortable with for pre-K, we can keep her in preschool for an extra year while we either try the lottery again or move to a new town, but she's an early October kid, so I'd really prefer that she start with pre-K (she'll be almost 5 at that point anyway).

@regberadaisy: We didn't make the lottery to preK at our local school, so he's staying at the religious preK. I was nervous and excited... until we got the letter that he didn't make it.

Where I am, there is no distinction (that I'm aware of) between preschool and pre-k. We don't have public preschool, so it's basically just sign up (and hope they're not filled), pay your enrollment/tuition and go.

Our preschool programs start being solidly booked by October of the previous year, it's crazy. We were enrolled this September for the following year. DS1 is only 3.

I'm nervous about kindergarten and J doesn't start until 2017 (December baby). You have to put in your name for the after-school/full day in January and I don't know what we'll do if he doesn't get in. Find a private after-school program? Ugh. And the full day/after school still costs $$$.

Right now he's in private preschool because it was so much less expensive than the public school preschool and better hours for us (afternoons, 1-5).

Stresses me out...

We don't have public pre-K so he's doing pre-K at his montessori school. I went back and forth about whether to do it, or keep him part time in preschool. But now that we decided to go for it, I'm happy with our decision.

We're hoping to get DD1 into the district UPK morning program which is first come first serve. Enrollment starts the first week of April when you receive your enrollment package.

We're hoping to get her in so she can acclimate to her elementary school. Be around the kids she'll spend the next 6 years of her life with. And the money saved will be nice. ;) Otherwise, she'll go to our daycare's PreK program full time.
