@math.nerd: Congrats on your back-to-back halfs! Where in SoCal are you? I'm in San Diego, and I'm doing the Triple Crown Series this year. You should definitely look into it if you're local!

@ldh112: most years I do a half, I think once a year the last 5 years except skip the year my son was born. New baby due in June so I may go for a race length I've never done before like a 10k or 15k, just so I don't feel "slow."
I did. Marathon one of the years I didn't do a half so that covers the last 7 years.
I should definitely make a running goal for 2016, great idea!

I'm running a half marathon in April as training for a Ragnar relay in May that I'm running with my coworkers.

I have a neighborhood running group I run with 2x a week, and they're doing a training program for the half, but I'm still pretty nervous about this doubling of typical mileage.

I am hoping to be ready to run a half this year. I got plantar fasciitis while pregnant with LO so I have to take my time building mileage. I'm currently pursuing the 10k distance

@bloved: so true! I've decided against Philly several years due to weather worries. I ran in 2010 and it was 45 and sunny so hoping for a repeat of that.

@mamabolt: same for me! I've done the Hershey half marathon and that was lots of fun but I think October might be too soon. My only concern about a November half is how cold it gets (I'm a big wuss!).

I've been ttc or pregnant for the past 5 years, but I really hope to do the Disney food and wine festival half marathon...hopefully 2017!

I'll be doing a full marathon in April, a 50k in May, a 12 hour race in September (goal is 50 miles!) And a full marathon in either later September or late October if the New York City Marathon lets me in!
After that we're TTC, and I'll be going back to half marathons for many, many years.

@ldh112: for long run motivation when you are flying solo I recommend a good book on tape. A few years ago while training for my first full, I would listen to Gone Girl on my 20 milers and it made a HUGE difference. I have also recruited friends to run parts of the long run days. For example if I had to do 18, I may run to a friends house and then do 6 with her, so it cut down on the total time I was running alone.

@ldh112: I ran my first half in October of this year - and then my second a few weeks later. I trained with Team in Training - it's a branch of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I had to do some fundraising, but the coaches and training schedule they had set up really made it easy to stay with the program. I met some amazing people that I'm sure I"ll keep in touch with and raised a lot of money for a great cause. Each area has it's own team and the coaches and philosophies probably vary a lot, but if you're in the So. Cal. area I HIGHLY recommend meeting up with the team near you. Please let me know if you'd like more information!

I'm considering a half marathon in 2016. I prefer spring summer fall running though so I'd rather do one in the summer or fall so I can sit the winter out.

Wow! There are many of you :) I think what I'm most nervous about is doing the long runs. I'm not sure I could be motivated to do them by myself. I had two friends to train with last time but it doesn't look like it would be the case this year.

Yes! I did a full marathon in October (my first!), and I'm signed up for four half-marathons in 2016 ( ). I'm hoping that if I maintain a decent mileage base, it won't be too hard to stay in shape throughout the year.

I've done 2 fulls and 2 halfs in the past....I would love to do another half in the fall and train over the summer but it's hard with 2 kids! I definitely don't have the time to devote to a full marathon, but I'm hoping to get back at it and lose the last of this baby weight by signing up for a 1/2

I would love to run another half this year. I'm getting a treadmill soon so I can keep running during my pregnancy and pp (since I can't run with an infant). I think I could probably do one next November since I'm due in August.

I was signed up for a half this month, trained for it for months and then had the flu the week of the race! 😩 I did run a half in September and it was okay. I could have trained longer.

Yes! Running a half marathon in April and signing up for the Honolulu marathon. It is going to kick my butt into gear to finally lose this baby weight! I used to run the marathon every year but this year I have a goal time. I promised myself i would stop marathons once I hit my goal time (im not a very fast runner)

I ran a half marathon 5 years ago. Afterwards, I kissed running goodbye more or less because I was so burnt out from training but I sure did love that experience. Now, I have a good 10 lbs of baby weight hanging on for dear life and while I don't expect training to make it go away, I just want to be active again. I looked at the website for the local marathon in April and just about threw up from anxiety as I considered training again. I am currently trying to find a friend to convince me to do it. Those long runs on the weekends would definitely require some support!

Anyone else in the same boat?
