@Sams Mom: this is so interesting. Might check this out. Thanks!

@pachamama: i go to the gym at least 4 times a week, sometimes we make it 6 so I've got that part covered. The issue with mine is it was triggered by a physical reason so sometimes the gym doesn't help. I'm considering therapy but finding the right place takes so much work and I find it incredibly stressful. (Already tried one place that was basically like oh you don't want drugs well here's a list of other practices. And they supposedly specialized in cbt)

@MamaBear87: I also have situational anxiety. I would say I'm pretty high functioning and it's mostly really negative self-talk and these pessimistic vortexes I get into. And catastrophizing, that's my jam. But I am not my best self, especially not at home where I really let my bitch fly.
The things that work for me are exercise and therapy. I just went to a training today on mindfulness and wellness ("in the classroom", I'm a teacher) and we learned how the sympathetic nervous system PUMPS out cortisol and adrenaline when stressed which destroys executive function and emotional control. In the past, physical activity (ex- running away from a threat) released all those harmful (but necessary) hormones. Now we just sit and they just build. So exercise is an amazing way to regulate bad juju in your brain and body if that makes sense. Sorry so science-y but it was nice to know why exercise makes me feel so good.
Are you opposed to therapy?

Don't know if it would help in this scenario, but my husband EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to first help with anxiety around driving after a bad wreck, and then more recently after his officer involved shooting. It has helped him exponentially, like we couldn't listen to music while in the car because it would get him so stressed out. It might help you work through your anxiety about the panic attacks and SVT reappearing.

@MamaBear87: first off I’m sorry you’re going through this. It sounds awful.

I had a lot of anxiety issues post Partum. Being constantly scared something terrible was going to happen to my son or my husband. also because 2016 was a horrible year for me where I went through a lot of grief and loss. Add to that I’ve had two miscarriages and my son (although amazing) has some special challenges of his own. So trying to conceive again is really stressful for me.

I definitely would recommend a therapist who uses cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt). CBT focuses on identifies thoughts and behaviors associated with anxiety. You may not ever get rid of the thoughts that produce anxiety but you can learn how to identify them and cope with them. It’s very hands on and not just based on talking which I appreciate about it.

I’m rooting for you and hope you get some relief soon.

@Chuckles: I'm hoping so. It's weird because at this point it's just anxiety about having an attack. And like you I'll get overly aware of certain things and then it goes downhill from there

@Chuckles: i also use most of the techniques you mentioned. I'm just so so tired of having to do all of them what feels like all the time and then I still end up with a panic attack alot of the time.
And I also worry all the time about any time my heart feels 'weird'. My svt resolved on its own so I'm super worried it will also just come back all by itself

@MamaBear87: That makes sense. I was thinking more about how having SVT makes me way more sensitive to anytime my heart rate goes up a little bit, even if I haven't had an episode in years. And, also, some of the same coping techniques can help manage or prevent panic attacks, too.

@Chuckles: I'm actually not having svt episodes. I'm just dealing with the fallout of feeling that because I've had a few panic attacks since my svt stopped that they will happen again which basically then makes them happen. They're way more manageable now that my heart rate isn't crazy. I'm just frustrated hugely that I'm still having issues when I was assured that having the svt fixed would fix everything

@MamaBear87: I bet that some kind of cognitive-behavioral therapy will help a lot. As someone who also had SVT episodes, I have to be really aware of not being *too* aware of my heart rate and anxiety level, if that makes sense. The more I focus on it, the more I'm likely to have a panic attack. I use a lot of distraction and relaxing breathing/progressive muscle relaxation.
Also, whenever I did have an SVT episode, I would use a lot of cognitive coping techniques like reminding myself that it had happened before and had just been SVT that would last like 10 minutes or so (the worst of it - it usually took like 30 minutes to feel normal again), not that I was suddenly dying or having something more serious going on. That I had survived it before by staying as calm as possible and breathing as slowly as is possible when your heart rate is like 200. I hope you find a therapist who is a good fit!

@MamaBear87: I am a high strung neurotic person, worrying about TTC made me a mess of obsessive focus on temping and tracking. I was anxious 24/7, I finally gave up and talked to my OB (who I wish could be my GP) and I went back on Zoloft (had PPA/PPD). It has helped tremendously, I still have days where I consider I might need to up my dose, but they're a rarity.

@MamaBear87: Tachycardia isn’t always caused by an extra electrical pathway. They did an ultrasound of the heart to look at that, and I didn’t have an extra pathway. Having an ablation would leave me dependent on a pacemaker; that’s obviously not something I want. Mine is called inappropriate sinus tachycardia. It was really bad 10-12 years ago (170 bpm at rest was my worst), but has gotten better with time. Those were tough years. I already had low blood pressure, so the medications, which also lower bp, were brutal. Like, passing out sometimes brutal. So I got off the meds as soon as my heart rate went down to a more manageable level. Pregnancy actually improved it for me (probably due to the vascular changes of pregnancy). Now my resting rate is only marginally above normal, in the 90s or low 100s.

@Iced Tea: interesting I didn't know there were kinds that couldn't be ablated. Do you know how they tell the difference?
The success rate is over 95% so I'm just trying to focus on that and not think about the procedure itself. It's officially scheduled for may 29th and of course we now have to skip going to ca to see family for memorial day but what are you going to do?
Beta blockers are working decently for me but we'd like another baby and they get less effective over time.

And the cycle of tachycardia/anxiety is horrible! I've been taking Myo-inistol which has helped quite a bit. Perhaps something to check out?

@MamaBear87: I have anxiety and tachycardia as well, but mine is a different kind, which cannot be treated with ablation. The two absolutely feed on each other. Increased anxiety makes the tachycardia worse, meanwhile an increase in tachycardia symptoms makes the anxiety worse. It’s a vicious cycle. I hope the ablation works for you.

just in case anyone else comes across this. I actually have svt (superventricular tachycardia) which is causing most of this. I'm currently on beta blockers which help a lot and am hopefully being scheduled for an ablation to fix it in 2 weeks. Which is super scary but the only thing I can do if we'd like to have further children and I want it gone

Oh no! That really sounds like a physical reaction of some kind. Has it eased up at all since last week? Don't be hard on yourself for "causing" this, it's not that uncommon for people to have weird reactions to standard treatments on occasion. It happened to me (with a very common supplement) and I was pretty incapacitated without even realizing the thing I'm taking to get better is making me sick.

If there's something you can do tonight that makes you happy on a very basic level, go for it. Maybe a favorite movie, or adult coloring, or a long hot shower, or ice cream... whatever it takes!

I didnt really have "this is never going to end" feelings but I definitely felt overwhelmed and anxious and stressed and hyper and YES the 10 mg helped so much. Those feelings are totally gone. I am better at my job. I am more patient. I will say the one drawback is that the medicine does have sexual side effects :( But it works so well I am scared to try a new one right now!
