@meganmp: I've always thought expecting moms parking should be changed to moms of babies parking! I have no trouble getting around even now that I'm in my last trimester, but it hurts my heart to see mamas trying to drag carseats and strollers out of their vehicles and get their LOs strapped in/out and lugged in the door.

@andrea86: I was just about to come on here and say that the parking in my area says "For new and expectant mothers'

I never parked there when I was pregnant but now I always do if I have LO in tow!

I'm so glad someone else feels this way too! 48 hours after giving birth I was home for Thanksgiving. There were not enough places for everyone to sit in the kitchen, where everyone was hanging out, and no one asked if I wanted to sit down. If I had still been pregnant, people would have been LEAPING out of their seats, but when I really wanted to sit and do nothing, no one batted an eye. Also, I totally agree with the expecting moms parking! I totally parked there when I was 12 weeks along, because I thought it was so special. I would kill to be able to park there now as opposed to searching for parking, only finding spaces next to jerks who park RIGHT on the line and then lugging two car seats into the the store through the rain.

Rant over:)

@Anagram: This is so true, and I think some women are also kind of in denial. After having my first, I was whining to one of my mommy friends about how I never knew it was going to be so hard, and she said "yeah, I didn't warn you because I didn't want to discourage you" but I was like "wah, I would have much rather been warned!" So I tried to warn my pregnant friend yesterday about how hard it might be, and she was like "eh, I try not to think about it".. I guess everyone is different!

Ugh I'm dreading postpartum a little! Pregnancy has been not too bad but I know I'll be way more uncomfortable any day now. Honestly I get annoyed with people offering special treatment while I'm prego--I mean it's fine if you want to lift something heavy for me, but people act like I should be helpless and not ever do anything!

I felt feirce when I was pregant! It was like I was doing what I was born to do and it felt so good!

Post partum...well the Mama thing I still feel like I was born to do it but everything else is really HARD!

If I could jsut take care of LO and not have to worry about work, laundry, dishes, dinner life would be grand!

This is one of society's little "secrets". NO ONE talks about how difficult post-partum can be, so the average person (women who aren't moms and most men) have no idea how difficult it is). I have 6 neices and nephews and my sisters *never* talked about their post partum issues...until now when I am pregnant! My mom never did either (and she had 6!).

So I really think this is a case of a lot of people not realizing. I know before I was pregnant and started gathering information, I had no idea (see my answer on "what did you not know before you were pregnant).

The first time I read one of the posts about "All the things YOU will need after birth", like the sprays, mesh panties, big pads, tucks pads/witchhazel, ice packs, etc. etc. etc.....I was like...WTF? Why does no one talk about this? (I'm guessing because women don't like to talk about the state of their lady parts--understandably.)

Yes! And, I'm not even post partum, yet! My MIL just told me she wants to come over today to help me clean, so that I can rest. I told her that I would *really* like her to come after I have the baby, cause right now *I'm* cleaning, cause I'm nesting, and I'm trying to stay moving to encourage this baby out! She says I need to be resting...no, I need to rest after...come clean, then!

I ended up just telling her to wait til after I have the baby. I got errands to run today anyways.

Ugh! My sil was pissed that we weren't allowing visitors the first day we were home. Even though I'd said this during my pregnancy, I explained again that I was tired, overwhelmed and in a lot of pain and she told me I should've sucked it up, 'everyone else does!' . She's had 2 of her own, too, so I thought she'd understand.

I've actually been worrying about this! I secretly love how kind and protective people have been of me while I've been pregnant, but I am slightly anxious for the newly PP period where you are recovering but supposed to be taking care of baby and getting back in shape and coming up with a new routine.

YES! I totally understand. I was hemorrhaging (literally hemorrhaging...I kid you not), an hour after my c-section. Everyone was more concerned with scheduling their hospital newborn pictures and arranging times to drop by our house to visit.
Name another time you have major surgery and are expected to function 40 minutes later! Sheesh!
I totally get it.

Good point- part of it IS how quickly it changes! I was like, wait, what?! LOL

ETA Like, I had no idea how little sleep I'd get IN the hospital. I'd heard that the nurses come in and out all the time but for some reason I thought I'd be focused at least for a couple days on recovering, but recovering (like the nurses counting how many times you pee) becomes just another to-do!

I totally know what you mean. Also, you get so much medical attention when you're pregnant but pp when you feel like shit but have a newborn to look after, no one cares, ha ha. I remember barely being able to stand up from nausea a few days after my c-section when I took my baby to the doctors but the receptionist totally didn't care. A few days earlier I'd have been given a seat and VIP treatment. Oh, how quickly it changes : )

Everyone seems to think that when a woman is pregnant it severely impairs her ability to lift things, stand, basically function. (Thinking of the you shouldn't... post.) To the point that it (to me) gets annoying!

But after you give birth, you should be doing EVERYTHING while simultaneously recovering from things like tears, major surgery, etc. No special treatment for you!

I realize that some women have difficult pregnancies but I don't think very many people would describe the newborn phase as easy either! I would have gladly given any special treatment from my pregnancy to have felt more supported post partum!
