@Charcole2011: I weighed myself last night, 7 weeks, and I was 5 or 6 pounds over my usual weight already. But the last time I was at the doctor when they weighed me, right after eating and drinking and with shoes on, I was only a pound less than last night. I'm counting that one as a fluke and that I did gain 5 pounds in a couple of weeks.

I am afraid that I am on this path - I'm just 8 weeks and already have gained about 5-6 pounds (I think - I never weighed myself before but when I went for my first dr. appointment at 4 weeks I was already higher than what I had ever been before so I am assuming I had already gained some, although how that was possible, I do not know). I am in the same boat as some PPs with meat totally grossing me out and basically cheese, carbs, and fruit being the only things that are at all appealing food-wise. But I am hungry ALL the time! I used to only eat maybe two meals a day and now I am constantly snacking - I know I needed to eat more but yikes.

I think everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy, so I wouldn't try to compare your weight gain to anyone else's- I gained 5 lbs the first trimester, but eventually gained 25 total. I was able to be active through my whole pregnancy though, so it's not like your experience can be compared to mine.
With that in mind, since it sounds like your body needs exercise to keep the excess (ie, non baby) lbs off (I'm like that too, if I don't work out I gain no matter how healthy I eat), I would try to go see a nutritionist who can give you some good tips on the best foods to eat. Definitely protein and fiber are good for keeping you feeling full- I know those things are hard to eat when you are not feeling well... But, mind over matter ("I WILL eat that chicken breast") can be a powerful thing. :)

I did put on exactly 60 lbs over the course of my pregnancy :-) To be fair, a LOT of it was water weight (my ankles and feet were HUGE for the last 5 weeks) and I had an almost 9lb baby. Honestly, I didn't worry much about it and my midwives were ok with it. I did get my butt into gear after delivery and lost every single pound by 9 months postpartum. I did WW and and nursed, and all but 20 lbs literally melted off. I did have to work for the last 20 lbs, but it did come off :-)

You know that I barely gained anything, and honestly, I ate like crap. I really think that 90% of it is a total crapshoot. I even tried to eat more to gain more weight, and it didn't work, so I doubt that if you eat less your body will cooperate. I'm sure that doesn't make you feel better, but maybe just know that it isn't your fault. Society is suuuuuuper judgy about weight gain and pregnancy weight gain in general, which is really obnoxious and awful.

@LazyLightning: I think it's relatively normal and evens out as long as you're eating normally. I gained a lot at the beginning and was so frustrated when so many other people had only gained a few pounds. Eat well...don't stress! : )

I didn't gain a ton of weight in first tri, but I DID gain like 6-7 lbs of bloat almost instantly and weighed that much more at my first OB appt. when they weighed me. I was so shocked! But the bloat slowly subsided in first tri and I lost it all by 2nd tri. So nauseaous both 1st & 2nd tri so my weight has slowly been gaining again, with one 2-week period where I gained 4lbs! I was shocked! Overall, just watch your calorie intake and try not to stress about it too much.
P.S. A a HUGE fan of Peanut Butter, just watch out on the PB intake. When I did a calorie count, you'd be shocked to know how many calories was in 2 tablespoons of PB (and I probably would eat like 5-6 xs that every time I had PB with apples!) It was a shocker for me I know.

I'm afraid to weigh myself, but I know my clothes are getting tighter already at 7 weeks. I'm in the same boat-- I can't exercise because I feel like total crap, and I need to keep food in my stomach. Most of the time all I can handle are carbs so that's definitely adding fat, not baby. I'm just trusting that once I feel better, I'll be able to exercise more and eat healthier, since I generally do have a somewhat healthy diet. I got really excited last night when I really wanted a salad!
For now all I can do is exercise when I can-- I walk to the train station a mile and a half away instead of the nearby one, and the fresh air in the morning helps. It is nice to hear I'm not alone in this too!

I'm also 5'10" and i put on 10 pounds in the first 13 weeks or so, maybe a few more pounds. It leveled off pretty quickly after that. I was tracking my calories, too, because I wanted to know if i was inadvertently eating too much, and I wasn't--I was in the 2,000 calorie range, which was fine. But it did help me choose carrot sticks over crackers on some other days.

When you feel a little better, you can eat healthier snacks and get some exercise. The weight gain may not be a big concern, but it sounds like you are putting on fat more than baby weight, and it's bothersome, so I don't blame you at all for being concerned! I would be, too!

Kind of TMI, but are you constipated? Quite a few pounds could easily be that.

@LazyLightning: Yep, I gained a decent amount 1st trimester (and it's been continual through my 3rd). I think I was up 25 lbs by 20 weeks and now at 31 weeks I'm up about 35-38 lbs. I keep asking my doctors about it, and they say not to worry, so I'm trying not to. I hated meat for most of my pregnancy up until a few weeks ago so maybe if I had more protein, I wouldn't have gained AS much? Who knows. It's mostly belly and butt for me. I passed my GD test, so it's not that. I'm just hungry! I hear ya on the depressing part, I cannot WAIT to go running again and get my muscles back!

This happened to me. I put on loads and was so sick, I had no idea how it happened. It didn't slow down at all and really confused me because I've been small my whole life and always been able to eat what I wanted. I don't really have any advice because I put on a lot by the end but just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

@ladyfingers: most of mine is out front at least. But honestly the back fat I've developed in the past month or so really has me depressed. Never in my life have i had rolls of fat on my back. I tried to do chest presses this morning thinking somehow i could spot tone it away (of course not, and it just made me sick. lol).

@Mrsbells: I was eating about 1000- 1100 a day prepregnancy, since i was about 12 or 13 (really low metabolism). My doctor told me it's unwise to eat less than 1800 well pregnant. I tracked a few times over the past few days, and find i ate 1600 one day and 2000 another day (we went for ice cream yummm). Seems like a ton to me but not totally over doc's limit....

@knittylady: Good to hear! I'm so over this and that's a big problem for me- I CAN'T eat healthy. dairy and fruit and veggies all make me just GAG. so much of my calories come from carbs. I am not 'eating for two/pigging out, but I am trying to keep my tummy from emptying out. Hard to balance!

@ladyfingers: I really need to just go with it. But it grosses me out. If I looked pregnant and not just really, really overindulged, that might help. Also if websites and apps and nurses would quit telling me "you should have only gained 1-5 lbs..."

@mrsjyw: good to hear! I was at 155 (5'10"), now decently over 170. A number I have never seen! I get that we have to gain weight but I prefer not to meet 180 for quite a while yet!!!

I didn't "diet" when I got my BFP, but I started tracking calories and nutrition religiously. I naturally lost a lot of weight because I was actually eat less calories then I normally would but still plenty to grow a baby (about 2200/day).

I would take a good look at calories and see what you find.

I gained 12 pounds in my first trimester. I'm 32 weeks and I've gained about 27 pounds total (29 pounds as of 29 weeks, then lost 2 by week 31 due to my GD diet). I was never too worried about it, doctor always said I was doing fine. I don't really feel like I look like I've gained that much (uh, except all out front) -- like, my legs/face/arms aren't bigger. So I'm just going with it!

I gained a ton in the first trimester - I was gaining a pound a week! Once the first trimester ended and I started sleeping again, I found the energy to do my 25-minute strength workout as well as monitor my food intake. I definitely cheated over Thanksgiving, but in general I try to stay away from carbs. I focus on protein (steak, chicken, roast, etc) and tons of salads. I dropped 3 pounds the first week that I cut carbs + added workouts, and now I'm either maintaining or gaining more like .5 pound each week, which is much better for the stage I'm at in the second trimester.

I'm not super worried about it, but at the same time, I knew that it would put me at risk of GD, so I figured I better start eating as though I have it to avoid it. If that makes sense.

Yep, I'm up 7 pounds at 10w. A major part of it is that before pregnancy, I was on a diet of 1500 calories a day, and now I'm eating closer to 2000 to keep the nausea at bay. I'm still active and eating as healthy as I can, but I have always had a very slow metabolism that = instant weight gain. That being said, my doctor said she gained a ton in the first tri, and that by the end she leveled out. Try not to stress too much about it, just keep an eye on it and eat the healthiest things you can manage! Pregnancy is stressful enough without worrying about how much we weigh!

I second what @Mrsbells: said..you only need up to 400 additional calories per day max. I've only gained 2lbs and I'm 20weeks and was way over weight when I started. I have had to just watch what I eat and how much of it that I eat.
I'm not dieting but I'm not over indulging either.
Counting calories or using an app like MFP was really helpful for me.
That and having GD diagnosed earlier but in all honesty I haven't cut much out of my diet even with the GD.

This is happening to me too. I'll be 15w on thursday and I've gained 13 pounds. I saw a pre-natal nutritionist last week and it was super helpful. It was all things I knew but hearing them again and have someone encouraging me was great. also telling DH all the tips was invaluable (mostly cause he's invaluable I think!) because he has been making me healthy snacks etc.,

One thing the nutritionist said was that when you have nausea it's quite normal to gain weight because for many women a full stomach is the only thing that helps. She said that eating healthier and getting a little more active will be MUCH easier as the nausea eases up.

Good luck! (To both of us!)

Are you able to track down how many calories you take in everyday? THat might help you figure out how you slow things down a bit. You really only need an additional 200-400 calories a day on top of what your pre-pregnancy diet was

I gained 15 lbs between Week 7 and 13. I'm at week 15 now and been putting on about 1.5 a week. So yeah... 18 lbs gained in about 8 weeks.

Don't even ask me how. With how sick I've been/still am. I do eat a lot of crackers and peanut butter but it isn't excessive.

I'm not carrying multiples.

I was not underweight to begin with (BMI 22). I do have a very slow metabolism by nature (always had to work very hard to keep weight off)... plus haven't been able to exercise much or at all without becoming lightheaded and/or throwing up a lot.

It just seems like it isn't slowing down at all and if this keeps up I'll have gained 60 lbs by the time I give birth.

Obviously I don't want to diet or anything due to baby's health but gaining so much isn't healthy either. I watched my calories and intake all last week and still put on 1.5 lbs. I don't think it's bloating either. It's consistent.

Please tell me this has happened to someone else and that it will slow down?? It's crazy. I have this huge belly and a thick layer of fat around me and I'm barely in to my second tri. A lot of women are still wearing their pre-pregnancy pants with a belly band -- I can't even get my thighs in to mine. It's so depressing.
