@Mrs D: I don't know that there's one that I inherently trust. I'm pretty liberal and many of the outlets I read tend to be liberal. I choose to watch shows, like All In with Chris Hayes and other panel shows because they'll have various and dissenting voices/experts on the subject. But I am a news junkie, so I read as much as I can on certain topics to get the story from as many angles as possible (though I do read conservative outlets, I make it a point to never read Fox News). I love to lets say read a story in The New York Times and then read a story on the same issue from the BBC to see how it stacks up.

The media has always been biased. Don't think that will ever change!

I pretty much stick to network news, which I do trust for the most part (although I did work in the industry, in the interest of full disclosure :-) ) I don't really watch MSNBC or Fox News. It all just gets really repetitive, on both ends of the spectrum. Then I just follow a variety of news outlets on Twitter and will click out to anything that interests me. Maybe not the most comprehensive way to get the news but it works well enough!

I usually try to stay out of discussions involving hot topics and current events because I feel like I can't possibly know the story and who's telling the truth or part truths, etc.

It's frustrating; I constantly feel like I don't know anything and everyone around me has the right answer. Maybe they're just better at articulating their thoughts?

Anyway, to answer your question, I have an account on reddit and created a multireddit I called "Canada" and in it I put the Canada News sub and Canada Politics sub and a few specific provinces I like to keep up to date with. So, I can go to that multi and browse through a grouping of all the current, important stuff. Sometimes there are 5 articles on the same topic and I can get a somewhat unbiased look on the topic.

Not sure if that helps, but that's how I do "News".

@Mrs. Carrot: I generally ignore the news as well. I have the TV to a local news channel in the AM (before 7 when the national shows start) just so I know "whats going on". Other than that I do not watch the news. I just find it frustrating that it is so difficult to sift through the BS when searching for FACTS. I'll look into Vox...

I work in a very media saturated field and geography (DC area) and 5 years ago I actively gave up all news, with the exception of NPR during my morning and afternoon commute and a few sources on a daily feed (currently that's NPR and Vox). It's been amazing for my mood, well being, etc, not listening to all the garbage out there. I don't trust network media at all (the CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc.'s of the world). NPR does have a liberal slant but I find their approach much more even keel so I start there. Vox is a news "explainer"/curator - that's the best way I can think to describe it - and I love how they put current events in context and site a lot of sources. I also get the Daily Skimm email, which gives me an overview of headlines. I find that's enough for me.

Anyone else flat out hate how the media has become so biased lately. All of them...everyone.

I dont know how you have time to research and really get to the bottom of topics and the truth on your own without becoming a zombie who doesnt sleep.

Where do you go to research facts about hot topics/current news? How do you do it efficiently without spending too much time on it? Is there any news outlet you feel you can trust?

I have general opinions about topics and am very comfortable admitting "I dont know much - but..." when I have discussions. But sometimes I like to 'get to the bottom' of something and just feel its so frustrating that no one can be trusted anymore to share actual FACTS.

Rant over...maybe!
