@bluestriped bee: Oh no! Hopefully keeping her clothed will help. It's so hard when it's hot and you don't want to keep adding layers. I nanny for another little one and I sincerely hope that he and my kiddo will never figure out how to remove each others diapers.

Ugh! My DD was found in her crib butt naked because she took off her diaper and put the diaper through the rails. Poop and all on the floor. 😂💩😬

Luckily, the heatwave is gone it got cooler so the babies are back in clothes and no longer wear just diapers.

Good thing. My sister said her friend's triplets learned how to take each other diapers off that she had to duck tape their diapers after they smeared poop on the walls! 😳😷

Thank you all for all of the advice and commiseration! She's tried it again a few times, but I've been able to distract and redirect her so far. Hopefully it's just something new and exciting that will be uninteresting soon enough.

My 16.5 mo has never tried to take his CDs (snaps) off. We used Honest Co disposables last month during a vacation and he didn't try to take those off either. I guess we are lucky!

My daughter started taking off her diapers with snaps at 14 months, so your kiddo might be headed down the same path! I also just tried to react as little as possible and put her in a onesie top (plus pants) for a few weeks. She'll still try to do it occasionally (she's almost 2 now), but we can talk to her more about why we need to keep the diaper on and she's (usually) responsive to that.

Yes, LO 3 can remove her overnight snap diapers through her pjs and sleepsack. I think she hates the wet feeling? We started using disposables overnight and she doesn't mess with those diapers.

Yep. She can take snaps off through one piece jammies! Mostly it was a new skill and she doesn't do it as much now. She will take it off for me at bathtime or if I ask her - or yesterday randomly when she needed to use the potty (unprompted, a miracle!). To ride out that phase I just always kept her diaper covered and would always put it back on promptly and not make a big deal out of it so it wasn't a fun trick she wanted to repeat.

@LindsayLou: I feel your pain! My DD is 16 months and loves to try and take her diaper off! I thought I had plenty of time until this would become an issue. We usually use onesie tops plus pants/short which prevents her from doing it most of the time. The minute we take her onesie off she goes straight for the diaper! No advice just commiseration...

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, bloomers/diaper covers have posed no problems for her with aplix, not sure yet about snaps. I'm guessing that most babies don't even try to take their diaper off, at least until they're close to potty training. I think it's a personality thing. My kiddo tests every boundary and is a bit of a wild child, so this comes as no surprise to me.

I was going to suggest a onesie or bloomers or a diaper cover, if it is too hot for clothes.

I was wondering when the twins would learn to take their diapers off. I don't think they've tried at 11 months of age. They are almost always Ina onesie. Though, with the heat, they've been in just a diaper this week.

@Cole: I'm fairly certain she's trying it because she thinks it's funny. And because she'd rather be naked all the time. She looks right at us and grins and laughs when she does it. I'm trying to give as little reaction as possible when she does it, but it's so hard not to laugh.

I'll definitely try putting it on backwards.

My daughter can definitely undo the aplix but thankfully she doesn't even try with the snaps, I wonder if it's bothersome without pants? I don't have any brilliant advice but maybe you could put the diaper on backwards? We have flips and I feel like it would work. Good luck! Bare bottomed babies are cute but only until they make a big mess!

@avivoca: Good idea! That didn't even occur to me. We haven't done onesies since 6 months because she's so squirmy, but if she keeps this up, I'll have to. Thanks!

Does anyone else have a baby with an unfortunate habit of taking off their own cloth diaper? What did you do? Did they ever stop doing it?

My almost 1 year old figured out how to undo aplix a few weeks ago. Almost all of our diapers have snaps, and I was planning on snap converting those last few anyway, so no big deal. But today, she managed to undo the snaps on one of her flip diapers. I had no idea babies could do that! She was also in the process of peeing on the living room carpet when I realized that her diaper was off.

Obviously, the easy answer is to never have her in just a diaper. But she's crafty, and managed to undo aplix several times while wearing a skirt or pants. She just reached down and undid it, no big deal. I'm concerned she's going to figure out how to do the same with snaps.
