@Pancakes: yes! I could put my LO in a sitting position but he would still fall back at 8 months. I think he started being able to sit up alone at closer to 10 months. I did worry about it but we didn't do any PT or anything like that.

@Anagram: oh man, I'm terrible about the vit D drops! LO rolls both ways but doesn't army crawl. My older DD was sitting by this point and had been army crawling for months so I feel like it's hard not to compare them!

DS2 couldn't sit unassisted until around late 8 closer to 9 months or so (compared to his brother who did it around 4-5 months). He began crawling at almost 10 months and cruising shortly after. I didn't do anything to help. He did it in his own time. He's pretty much at the same place his brother was at that age.

My LO sat up for the first time unassisted when we were at her 7 month appointment--but even then, she was kind of hunched over, not sitting up perfectly straight like other babies were doing.

BUT she was already army crawling and could jump like a madwoman in her exersaucer, so I knew it would happen soon and it did.

Also, I never gave her vitamin d drops, it was winter, and she was exclusively on BM--I read on here that low vitamin d could cause low muscle tone (or something), so I got serious about giving it every day, and that might have helped, too!

@Pancakes: DS couldn't sit up until he was about 9.5-10 months! I have family pics from when he was around 9 months old, and he was falling all over the place. But he is sooo ridiculously active now. He was able to do other things, like he started army crawling at 6 months, so I figured he would get the hang of it soon enough.

DD2 is almost 8m and i still don't feel confident leaving the room when she's sitting unless she has a boppy. Even then she will get restless and end up on her back. She actually cannot consistently roll over yet either. I am not worried yet but if she's still not 100% sitting unassisted or starting to roll more frequently by 9m checkup I'll definitely be bringing it up.

She just has no interest in physical milestones! So lazy! :silly:

My oldest didn't start sitting until 9ish months. Very soon after that he started crawling and cruising. Once he hit that point, everything happened very quickly. His head has always been greater than 97% so we figured he had some extra work managing that.

DS is 6.5 months and can only sit unsupported for a couple seconds too, so I'm interested to know this as well!

My dd crawled at 6 months and I was worried bc she wasn't close to sitting. At 7 months she just randomly started sitting. Didn't seem like she was close at all one day then next day she was a pro. I would sit her up with the boopy or help balance her on the floor buy nothing too intense. I wouldnt be too concerned at this point!

LO 2 was a late sitter and didn't sit up Until 12.5 months. She was also late on crawling and didn't walk until 20 months. We started PT at 12 months and EI at 14 months for gross motor delays.

LO is 7 months and doesn't seem anywhere close to ready to sit independently. She may sit for a few seconds max, but she usually just topples over as soon as we sit her up.

If your LO was a late sitter, what age did they finally sit independently? Did your LO require any PT/EI to get there? Did you do anything to help them?
