@NCSUchick27: my past dog was on dry hills science RX. Man that that was expensive. We would buy directly from the vet and he gave us a discounted price since we were buying it (45lbs bag) every month.

We also gave our dog apples and Blue Dog Bakery dog treats.

Our dog is on a Royal Canin rx food for metabolism. Her 'treats' are just one piece of kibble that we keep in a Tupperware container.

Our dog is on hypoallergenic dry kibble for food allergies. We have an issue finding treats too so I'll be following to see if anyone has any ideas. Prescription food is so expensive, Royal Canin hypoallergenic is $95 for the 25lb bag. Luckily it lasts us about 2 months!

@ShootingStar: did you just test out one thing at a time to see if your dog was allergic? Or did you get testing by the vet?

@NCSUchick27: I have 2 cats and it looks like i buy it every 3-4 months..... I buy a 17.6 lb bag. You have to send them the Rx every time you order, so I just took a picture of it with my iphone and email it in afterwards.

@blackbird: Our cat is weird and won't eat wet food or treats. She won't even eat canned tuna. We are lucky she will even eat the dry food of the Urinary SO. She has a water fountain so she drinks a lot of water.

Our dog loves wet food, and we have given her the wet version of the prescription food before. She goes nuts for it. I will keep that in mind.

I will have to look into petfooddirect.com. How big of a bag do you usually buy? I can't remember what we usually pay at the vet.

Our dog has a ton of allergies and used to be on rx food until I found a regular one she could tolerate. She doesn't really get a whole lot of treats because most dog treats have a ton of ingredients and I never know what she'll be allergic to, plus she's allergic to chicken which is in everything. The one dog treat we do give her is dried liver. I know she's not allergic to beef and the liver has no added junk. We also give her baby carrots and cheese. She loves most veggies so we'll toss her some when we're making dinner.

My cats are on the same Urinary SO food. i order mine through petfooddirect.com...it's about $60 I think? it lasts us a LONG time, and they always have free shipping and it comes super fast.

is wet food as a treat an option? our vet says that wet food isn't the issue with urinary issues so much as the dry food, so they get wet food of whatever variety (mine like the fancy feast souffle in the afternoon) and the Urinary SO is their dry food. i just have cats, but I imagine wet food would be quite a treat for a dog, too!

Both of our pets are now on prescription food. Our cat is on Royal Canin Urinary SO due to bladder issues, and our dog was just recently put on Hill's Prescription Diet i/d due to chronic gastrointestinal problems. Talk about $$$.

What do you give your pet for treats? Our cat won't eat treats, but our dog does. I was thinking about just putting some of the dry kibble in the treat jar just to make our dog think she is getting a treat.
