@Miss Adia: Good for you! I hope you don't have to deal with anything like it again. After the news we've gotten... and the enormous likelihood that its just a false positive, I honestly think for future pregnancies I'd do the same as you and opt-out of the testing/screening.

I just found out this morning that my level 2 u/s with a specialist is scheduled for Monday. I'm so glad they were able to schedule it before my original anatomy scan date (the 22nd) and before the holidays.

So I just have to make it through the weekend and I should have a better idea of what's going on in there.

When do you get your anatomy scan? That will really help narrow things down for you.

Oh, I did. when she came back I told her that I did not want to see the stand in doctor ever again. She was very condescending about me not wanting to waste the insurance time and my employers money paying for an ultrasound that wasn't medically necessary.

I would try not to worry about it. Even when they do tell you that your risk is low you still have a chance of having a down syndrome baby. I personally dont pay much attention to all the screening that they did. I did all the non-invasive tests they offered just so they would leave me alone. I dont think they are conclusive results by anymeans

Apparently they consider anything 1/150 or less to be normal. So I'm juuust outside of those limits.... I'm trying to stay positive and think of it as a freebie second anatomy scan, but the Momma in me can't help but worry.

@LAGS: I was just going to say that your overall risk sounds pretty low to me (1%)! Why are your numbers considered elevated? Wishing you all the best!

i think i came out relatively low. but 1/130 sounds pretty low to me too. it's less than 1%.

@Miss Adia - Wow, that's awful! I hope you've been able to get some reassurance from your regular OB :(

@Mediagirl - I'm 18w4d and had the blood work done at 17w6d. It just general blood work that's taken to test for four different hormones, hCG, Estriol, AFP and Inhibin-A. Its only a screening test for risk of various conditions, downs being one of them, and isn't a definitive diagnostic test.

@LAGS: I'm not sure what all of the terminology is but did you have this during your first trimester? Once you get to second, they can do a second batch of blood work and an ultrasound to give you a more accurate analysis. Try not to worry too much until then.

My regular OB was on vacation when I had some testing and her partner said I was at a very high risk for having a baby for Downs. I told her that downs happens in a small percentage of african american babies. She stated that we needed to do a level 2 ultrasound and I told her that wasn't happening because my insurance didn't cover it. Then she yelled at me in the office that she knew best and I walked out.

No this was the quad screen blood work. I opted against the NT scan.

I just got off the phone with my OB. My blood work came back from my quad screen with a 1/130 risk of downs syndrome.

We're scheduling a level two ultrasound with an office in a different city, but until then... I guess I'm just looking for a little reassurance. My OB (and my common sense) said this is all too common and there's often no problem at all, but I'm just wondering if anyone here has had their testing come back with an elevated risk, what if any further testing you decided to do and of course if the screen was accurate in the end?
