Ugh, I dealt with this with both deliveries. Just internal though, so I think it was more lack of fiber and not enough water while nursing. Dealing with it right now... pooping hurts sooo baaaaad :(

@jholler25: I've had this problem before I was pregnant. I was an impatient pooper and would push too hard to speed things along. Lol I didn't realize it could give you hemorrhoids, heck I didn't even know what those were! I've been extra careful during pregnancy and drinking lots of water and making sure I get enough fiber and luckily haven't had to deal with it yet.

One thing that has helped me not have issues anymore is letting gravity do its job. Don't be in a hurry to poop!

I had this issue as well, but only twice during the later half of my third trimester. At first, I freaked cuz I thought it was vaginal bleeding, but then I was able to confirm through multiple wipes that it was not, so I felt relieved. I wanted to bring it up with my doctor but gosh darnit, I was too embarrassed to even mention the word "anus" or "rectum" to him!! OMG!! It seems so silly in retrospect, and male or female doctor, it would've still been difficult for me to phrase it. =P

Yeah.... mine were not painful in pregnancy then painful postpartum for a few weeks, and then from 6-10 weeks it was HELL, and now it's slowly going away. I'm only treating with diet...
@Mrs.B: eek!@jholler25: hahahahhahahha. I had a c-section (but labor and pushing before) and she's right. Enjoy it! Hah!

@jholler25: I had the colonoscopy a few months PP. I opted to stay awake during the procedure so I could still take care of DS when it was over. It wasn't bad at all just sort of uncomfortable and awkward. If I ever have to do it again I will let them put me to sleep. They shoot alot of air in your colon during it so afterwards you have to pass the air (basically the biggest fart of your life!) which happened to come as we were out for lunch after the procedure. SO embarassing!

lol yes.
I actually had some before I even got pregnant so pregnancy totally made them worse. seriously the whole toilet would be full of blood. nasty.

After I had DS I thought it would get worse, I was fine for the first three weeks. Then right at 3 weeks I got the worst hems EVERRRRR. seriously I would cry while going #2. It was insanely torturous. They lasted an additional 3 weeks. I became religious about putting tucks pads on them and that helped a lot. Also, soaking in a sitz bath - I put sea salt and herbs in my bath tub and soaked. It was wonderful and helped a lot.

Also I used this product a lot while I was pg and I SWEAR by it: http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/postpartum-recovery/new-mama-bottom-spray.html

@jholler25: tell us what your OB says. I got what you have at 6 weeks postpartum from not drinking enough water while breastfeeding and getting constipated.....probably also from the pushing in labour. I told my doc about my bleeding and pain (at that time it felt like I was pooping razor blades) and he said to make sure I eat enough fibre. Since then, (2 months later) my poops are all nice and soft but I still have a flare-up bleed at least once a week.

@Mrs.B: can you tell us more about what it was like to have a colonoscopy. We're already TMI here, so may as well tell all? I'm a bit scared to tell a doc about my bleeding because I sort of don't want a colonoscopy.

@jholler25: My doula. When she came to check on us the week after LO was born and saw that I was having such a hard time she quickly sent me a link. It won't make them go away forever, but it will shrink them a bit. And it makes you feel like you're holding an ice cube between your cheeks :)

I would try using "adult wipes", lol--the flushable kinds--when you have a BM. This has happened to both DH and me (and I also found my first hemmy a few weeks ago--a joyful experience, let me tell ya!). It's probably exacerbated by wiping too hard with toilet paper, so I think the wipes help. We use Cottonelle brand.

I definitely had the same problem while pregnant and have dealt with it since. And 3 hours of pushing did nothing but take the problem a step further. Unfortunately, (according to my mother) once you get them in pregnancy you'll probably get them in labor, which means you'll probably always deal with them. She said tons of her friends ended up having surgery once they were done having kids.

In the meantime, here's my secret weapon. A little goes a long way. http://www.amazon.com/Ching-Hung-Soothing-Herbal-Balm/dp/B003TN33SQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344991727&sr=8-2&keywords=ching+wan+hung

I have internal hemroids from pushing for so long with DS (3 hours). They don't bother me to much now but every so often I still get flare ups and bleed. Not much you can really do about it but you should for sure talk to your OBGYN. I had to get a Colonoscopy:/ for mine which really sucked but better to be safe then sorry.

@sorrycharlie: I am too scared to take a gander! There's SO MUCH already going on down there! Especially in the front! I read Jenny McCarthy's 'Belly Laughs' and she talks about how in pregnancy, your vag ends up looking like two slightly blue Twinkies sitting side by side. At the time I couldn't imagine what the hell she was talking about. Now I'm pretty sure I know what she was talking about! I'm scared of it! And my Booty Problems!

I guess Booty Issues just go with the pg territory? I'm cool with it, I just hope it doesn't get worse. Dr. Google makes it seem like if you get hems, your insides basically fall out your butt! Oh mah gah! Please don't let that happen to me!!!!

A blog I read - MODG (she's frickin' HILARIOUS) - she calls her hems "Butt Nuts" and I find it wildly funny:) Until I have butt nuts. Then it's not funny anymore!

So not to be TMI...I occasionally bleed when I have a BM. Like not from my vag (Thank goodness!), but yep - from my bum:( I know this is internal hemorrhoids - but I have no pain so I haven't done anything about it. I haven't been super-constipated lately - I discovered these really delicious 90 calorie Fiber Choice peanut butter/chocolate brownies and they're so good! I end up eating 2 a day. So this isn't occurring lately as a result of being stopped up.

Does anyone else have bum issues? If you have internal hemorrhoids, is there a need to treat them if there's no pain?

I have an OB appt in 2 weeks. I'll ask her then, but just thought I'd ask here. Bc I just went and there was, ahem, a noticeable amount of red in the toilet. It's enough that I have to force myself to remain calm and check the "front" first to make sure it's not serious pregnancy bleeding, and then I confirm that it's definitely the "back."

I would call my Dr's office, but I probably wouldn't get a response from them in a non-emergency situation until I showed up for my appointment! Plus I am lazy. Actually it's definitely more that I am lazy.
