Aww man, what a bummer! Don't be embarrassed, but I can imagine it being hard to go from thinking you're about to give birth to having a couple more weeks to wait. Better safe than sorry! Glad she is getting to cook a little longer. :)

Definitely don't be embarrassed! You followed the rules exactly and went in at 5-1-1. Better to go in and be sent home then to not get to the hospital when you need to be there!

@LemonLong: Don't be embarrassed to go to L&D! You never know for sure until they check you out. I went at 23 weeks and never got to leave. I wasn't dilated either, but obviously at 37 things are much different.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant. Saturday I woke up around midnight with cramping, I got up, drank some water and tried to go back to bed, but the cramping continued. I started to feel pressure and got up and emptied my bowels twice. The cramping/contractions were continuing so I started timing them. They didn't appear to be BH's, and the pain was wrapping all around to my back. I got my husband up (it was about 4 am now), and he timed while I walked around the house and drank water to see if they would go away. The contractions were now about 5 minutes apart, and a minute long consistently for an hour. I was still having no trouble walking or talking though, so we decided to wait to call the doctor. By 6 am, the contractions were coming faster and harder so we called the doctor and went to L&D.

At L&D they hooked me up to the monitors, so we could see I was contracting, but when they did the cervical check I was barely dilated at all! They had me walk around for an hour, and then did another check and no change so they sent me home. While we were glad the baby is going to cook a little longer (she's measuring small) it was embarrassing that we went to the hospital and I wasn't even dilated yet! After 6 hours of consistent contractions I was SURE I was going into labor! Anyone else go to L&D only to be sent home?
