@lawbee11: our baby is the exact same way and she's 7 weeks. She struggles against the swaddle in her sleep and grunts loudly and I feel like the struggling wakes her up/makes it harder for her to go to sleep. But the few times we've tried her sleeping unswaddled, her sleep is even worse! So we continue to swaddle at night for now. Is hard though. My husband is a,ways saying the swaddle is too tight (when she makes that noise) and sometimes he will loosen it behind my back--- but then she'll wake up because she breaks free and her legs and arms will flail.

@Foodnerd81: I've read about the woombie, but LO will be 4 months this week so I'm hesitant to buy another system since we'll probably have to wean her soon! And I already have the Merlin (which she haaaaates) but hoping we'll eventually be able to use that to swaddle-wean!

@JoJoGirl: we do a double swaddle with the swaddle me underneath and an a&a blanket over. She's usually ok in it but if she gets her hands up to the neck it doesn't bother her. Have you tried a woombie? Zips right up so I'm sure you could zip it over another swaddle if this combo stops working.

Okay we FINALLY have a swaddle solution she can't break out of. Miracle Blanket on the bottom - this alone won't work for her because she squirms enough that she can loosen it because it doesn't secure - then swaddle me with velcro OVER IT so the whole damn thing is secured in place. Last night was one of the first nights ever she didn't break out!

My son could bust out of the swaddle me around 6 weeks or so so we started using the Miracle Blanket. Loved it! Weaned at 4 months when he started to roll.

I stopped trying after a few weeks. E could break out of any swaddle we tried (even the MB) and he just slept better with his arms up above his head. We ended up putting him in a long-sleeved sleep sack, and he used them until he got too long for them.

@Foodnerd81: Same with M--she's fine in the swaddle when there's a boob in her mouth!

@aprk: I think I am going to order one. We're in Texas (so hot!) and I always worry about her being too hot in the swaddleme blankets.

@lawbee11: um, I think we used it sometime around 6 weeks, until he weaned himself at 3 months-ish? We loved it! A lot cooler too, since it was summer. So much easier for night feedings too.

@lawbee11: she's definitely squirmy when she wakes up. But once I pick her up and start feeding her she settles right down still in the swaddle. So I think it's more that she's woken up, and now she's bored and pissed that no one has started feeding her RIGHT NOW!

J would do that when I would swaddle her and my husband pointed out that I just wasn't doing it tight enough for her...it was lose enough that she would try to bust out of it and sometimes would be successful. Maybe try a double swaddle or the Miracle Blanket? I think I've read about a swaddle strap that's for their arms only.

My LO does this, but I assume she is fighting *sleep*, not the swaddle. She sleeps well once she stops fighting it. Once DH decided she wasn't sleeping because of hating the swaddle so he took it off in the middle of the night and.. she thought it was time to wake up.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, M grunts a ton and I know she would even without the swaddle. When your LO wakes in the middle of the night is she squirmy? Or does she just lie there and cry? M is basically flailing about trying to get out of the swaddle when I go to pick her up, and I have no idea if that's normal or if she's supposed to be content in the swaddle?

Neither of my girls liked being swaddled, so I didn't. Both liked having their arms out. But I also wore them for naps and bed-shared, so having less interrupted sleep wasn't a big priority for me. Some babies just don't prefer it. Hopefully someone else has some good ideas about other things you could try if you are looking for other options.

K hated being swaddled, but would wake herself up all the time if she wasn't. And was pretty good at busting out of swaddles. I tried just about everything. The only solution was finally around 8 weeks I got the Miracle Blanket! Wonderful! Bust-proof! But she stopped being okay with the swaddle at 12 weeks. So... it was a short-lived victory. I'd use the MB from the get-go with the next one though!

C struggles against the swaddle some times but it does calm her down at the same time. She sleeps way longer with it on, but does frequently wake up with at least one hand up near her mouth out of the neck if the swaddle (we use the same ones). You could also try the miracle blanket- I felt like that was too confining though.

I think she grunts and moves in her sleep anyway, swaddle it not. She's just a grunty baby.

M hates being swaddled but I continue to do it because we tried not swaddling her and she woke up every hour from hitting herself in the face.

She fights it for a few minutes after I swaddle her, then she eventually falls asleep. But when I put her down in the PNP she grunts for a few minutes and tries to get out of it (her eyes are closed so she does this while she is sleeping). Then when she wakes she is grunting and obviously frustrated trying to get out of the swaddle.

Last night she had a 4-hour stretch of sleep at the beginning, but then woke a couple more times way before she should have been hungry...and she was moving around trying to get unswaddled. So I don't know if the swaddle is causing her to wake up (out of frustration) or if she is going through a growth spurt and that's why she is waking to eat more often.

Is this normal behavior? She is a month old--I was hoping she would grow out of hating it so much. But I don't think not swaddling her is an option.

We use the swaddleme velcro blankets--she easily gets out of everything else we've tried.
