Normally I *never* have trouble falling/staying asleep. Like it's a running joke in my family how easily I can sleep. :)

But pregnancy insomnia hit me too. Haven't really found a cure....

@pregnantbee: for me, I'm just a little groggy. I have to get up to clean up after my very old doggy sometimes. You cut the pills in half and just do a 1/2 dose, so it's not that much. But I doubt cleaning up dog poop and going back to bed is the same level of care as you're talking about

I get it pretty bad especially during the third trimester. I usually cope pretty well with little sleep so I just wait it out.

So with Unisom, are you able to wake up if your other LO needs you in the middle of the night? Is it habit-forming?

@Meridian: I just posted about this a couple of weeks ago:
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/insomnia-7#post-2435140

I did end up getting Unisom, and it's not a magic bullet for me but it definitely has helped. I think my insomnia has abated a little right now as I'm inching out of the first tri, but I expect to see it back again when I get as far along as you are now. I was absolutely miserable with it for a couple of weeks there--up like 6 nights a week for hours at a time. Hope yours stops hassling you!

@Happygal: I have it nursing now too a little. Last time I think I was so tired plus the nursing hormones helped me fall back asleep without a problem, but now I feel like I don't totally fall back asleep after she wakes up if it's after 3 am or so. It's really annoying.

@Autumnmama79: I keep looking at pictures of me and being surprised just how big the bags under my eyes actually are.

I'm there too..plus a nasty cold. So I wake up to pee, roll over or to cough/blow my nose and then I can't get back to sleep. I keep my iPhone beside me and headphones so I can watch a tv show or listen to an audiobook till I get sleepy again.

Unisom. First pregnancy took half a tablet 30-45 mins before bed. Second pregnancy took a whole one. Otherwise I couldn't fall asleep at all even when exhausted. Life saver!!

Take some Unisom. I had insomnia really bad while pregnant and it worked well for me until the final month of pregnancy. Totally safe to take.

@Meridian: Yes, and I have the bags to prove it! I spend most nights flipping from my left side to my right side, and repeat. Each time its a big upheaval of course with the belly. Then once I'm awake I start thinking about things....

Yes. I'm a bad sleeper to start with, and this has always been the worst thing to deal with. I also experienced it when frequently nursing throughout the night--it's like my sleep cycle was just to disrupted to then fall back asleep.

I've wanted to look into breathing exercises or some kind of meditation. But if I'm a streak of really bad sleep, Unisom helps and is approved by my doctor. I worry about it being habit forming, but I'm told that isn't a concern.

Hi. I'm dealing with it now. I wake up a lot because my sinuses are dry (the heater is right behind my room so it's really hot) and can't fall back asleep. It's either that or the cats decide that I've slept long enough and they keep walking on me.

I was doing pretty well, but now at 27w, the pregnancy insomnia is starting to kick in! Having a hard time either A) falling asleep or B) staying asleep... keep having to wake up to pee and then not being able to fall back asleep!

Anyone have any good remedies?
