@Aqualov: Sorry you didn't have the best follow up news after surgery. Such a bummer to know you have to have surgery again. Hopefully after the next one you will get pregnant in no time. I know surgeries to clean up the endo can help people get pregnant, just wasnt my luck!

@CatchAFallingStar: Congrats! That is awesome news. If we didn't have MFI I think we would have tried a couple IUI's first.

@mrswin: Do you have any cysts now before starting IVF? I have an IVF consult next week so hopefully I won't be too far behind you:) The big question is if I will need surgery first. I've met with 3 other doctors and each one had a different plan for my endometriomas so we will see.

I saw this thread pop up again so I thought I'd update. I made my last post just after my lap, but before my follow-up. Unfortunately after that I found out that I do have Stage 4 Endo now too. When I went to my follow-up appointment my doctor told me my Endo was very severe and tons of adhesions and Endo all over, more than Stage 3. It was even on both ureters from kidney to bladder. If left untreated it could have compromised my kidneys. The only thing I don't have is endometriomoas. He couldn't get all the Endo during that lap so I have to have another in 6 months. He put me on Zoladex to shrink the Endo and help the next surgery be more successful. We can't even try to TTC again until at least November. Luckily my tubes were open, but my doctor wants to do another dye with the next lap to make sure they've stayed that way.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: It seems like we have a very similar story. We also have MFI coupled with endo which mostly resides on my ovaries. We are starting an IVF cycle at the end of the month

@CatchAFallingStar: - hey sorry for the late reply, I went MiA for awhile but in back! My last lap was Oct 2012, at that time my tubes were open. My endo mostly likes my ovaries giving me
Huge endometriomas.. My cysts have grown back so surgery may be in my future soon. I have a consult for IVF next week.. We think we are finally ready to take the big step. Never tried IUI. Success rates are so low for endo girls and also finding out we have some MFI too that even more lowers chances. If I didn't have my endometriomas I would maybe be more open to trying IUI first but since fertility meds aggravate the endo and can make the cysts grow larger i don't really want to put my body through that for such low success rates so I think for us IVF is our best bet.

I have Stage 3 Endo. I was first diagnosed with Stage 1/2 in Jan 2013. I just had a second lap last week since we've had no luck TTC for 11 cycles ( I have short cycles, we didn't begin TTC until July) and my pain was back with a vengence. Apparently since going off BC to TTC it's advanced to Stage 3- in a year! Hopefully we'll be one of the lucky couples who get a fertility benefit from the lap in the first 3-6 months, or we'll be moving on to IVF at the end of the year.

I have suspected endo, but have not had a LAP. I also have PCOS and thyroid issues, so we are in the IVF process right now (after 3 failed IUIs). My friend has Stage 4 endo and tried to get pregnant for 7 years. She got pregnant after 1 IVF cycle and has a beautiful baby girl now.

My IUIs were with clomid. At the time I had no fertility coverage and my RE felt strongly that our odds would not improve enough to justify the hefty medication price tag. If we were going that far, he felt we should put that money toward IVF. We agreed.

I have stage 4 endo, still contemplating which direction I want to go for fertility treatment. Wish IUI had better success rates, IVF is just a huge things for us to afford with no IVF insurance coverage.

@CatchAFallingStar: Sorry I wasn't very clear above. The RE allowed us to do IUI because my SO was not comfortable jumping straight to IVF. However, when I asked about doing IUI with injectables she mentioned that from a cost perspective we would probably have a higher chance of success with IVF as the injectables will be similar. We pay $400 plus meds for each IUI cycle and IVF will be around $9000 plus meds.

ETA: IVF is a stretch for us financially but we are going to make the best of it since our options at this point are IVF or adoption....honestly I wish we hadn't waited so long (2.5 years) to move onto IVF

@mrswin: you mean injectables with IUI would've been of little benefit? IUI is only about $60 per cycle for us. IVF would be at least $10,000, so I need to consider that. I wish we could afford to go straight to IVF!

I don't know what stage my endo is, but I do know we had two options: luck and getting KU naturally or IVF. My doctor said IUI would be a waste of money immed our situation because endo was blocking the sperm-egg connection (which IUI couldn't address).

I have suspected endometriosis (never had a lap, just based on family history and symptoms) and IVF worked for us. My RE said he sees great results doing IVF on couples where endo is the primary reason for infertility. My sister has endo (confirmed with lap surgery) but I can't remember which stage they diagnosed her with. Once her endo was confirmed, her doctor also recommended moving to IVF. She was able to get pregnant through a FET, but lost the baby due to chromosomal issues (not related to endo).

Has your RE recommended a course of action since your diagnosis?

I have mild endo and had to do IVF for tubal reasons, but I believe that IVF is pretty successful for endo. I know I've looked at the SART IVF success rates for my fertility clinic many times and you can sort based on diagnosis and I've checked the endo category and don't remember seeing too much of a different in success rates for endo vs. tubal, unexplained, male factor, etc.

@CatchAFallingStar: I have endo but not stage 4. After my lap I was told it was "minor" and that it would be about a stage 2 because it was on my ovaries and uterus but nowhere else in my abdomen. We are looking to do IVF in the summer as we have had 4 failed IUI's to date
