We'd need something in good shape, rather than a fixer-upper—my SO is not handy. We have probably seen over 100 homes since we moved to our rental in 2008. We are looking in the suburbs south west of city (there isn't really a name for the area... Kind of between metro west and south shore) and we are pretty set on finding a house in a town with top schools.</p> <p>Our ideal would be 4 be, 2.5 bath, 2500 sq feet, large level lot at least 10k sq feet, on a quiet street, open layout. We started looking at the end of November because a house in our ideal neighborhood came on the market. That house wasn't right for us, but in the process of getting pre-approved for a mortgage, we found out we basically have to buy this spring or wait 2 more years. So we've been hard working little house hunters and are making an offer on our top choice tomorrow morning. The house we are offering on isn't in our ideal neighborhood, but is a place we can imagine raising our family easier than anything in our budget in our ideal neighborhood. Good schools, low taxes, over 2800 square feet including the finished basement, 3 beds, 3 baths with room to add 1-2 more bedrooms in the basement and only minutes from my husbands job. It's extremely frustrating and I vent about it a lot on the March2013Mamas thread!</p> <p>We are looking for a home in a suburb with a reasonable commute to NYC, where our jobs are located. Our priorities are a great school district and a walkable downtown/train station. We also need a town with daycare available nearby.</p> <p>Ideally we will find a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home with a formal living room and separate family room. We'd like a level backyard and to be on a side street with sidewalks. </p> <p>Dealbreakers for us include houses with steep rocky cliffs in the backyard, a highway running behind the home, property taxes over $20k, or a house that needs a ton of work. (We are not handy people at all!)</p> <p>There is a lull in the real estate market in our area through the holidays but we hope to pick up the search again in late January.
