@annetossy: Welcome and good luck! I think I recognize your name--were you on WB?

I'm not TTC, nor will I be any time in the near future, but when I started I just started with OPKs. They let me know when I was about to ovulate. After a few months of no dice I learned how to chart, so that I could verify that I was actually ovulating (via a temp rise). It's been a while since I've been there, but fertilityfriend.com has a great charting program, and when I started charted in early 2011 they had an online class of sorts--they would email a "lesson" every day for about 3 weeks, and by the end I had the basics down.

If you feel really ambitious, read Taking Control of Your Fertility (they also have a great charting program on their site (tcoyf.com). I will warn you, however, that it's very easy to get obsessed with analyzing your charts, so beware!

I think the saner, less potential crazy-lady way to go about it is to just start having sex (or using OPKs, although they bring their own obsession--but peeing on a stick is kind of fun!)

Good luck!

@annetossy: the OPKs are the most low key way to have some assurance you know you got the right time of the month... I like knowing we actually have a shot for the month, haha. I def don't think I will ever chart, too lazy :)

I just starting what I consider to be a phase of TTC this very month. A few days after my last AF, I purchased a clear blue OPK because I really wasn't sure how to move beyond the NTNP stage to TTC. But really, I wasn't at all "trying" in the year and a half that I have been off of birth control. In fact, I actively avoided DTD in the 2 weeks that surrounded what I believe to my ovulation date. But the funny thing is, my DH thought we WERE trying and he was all worried that I didn't get pregnant. Now that I have stated that we ARE trying, DH is nervous. I'm nervous, too!

But like you, @annetossy: , I am don't have a desire to chart and don't know how to chart!!

ETA: I did start taking prenatal vitamins three months ago and also went to a preconception appointment with my OBGYN.

We are on our fourth cycle since off BC. My first month off was very short so that almost doesn't even count. I have been using OPKs to try to BD within the right window and I'm glad I did because I have been ovulating later than the textbook CD 14 and I would have had no idea otherwise! I don't reply want to temp or get that detailed into it because I'd drive myself crazy!!

We are! We are going to start trying in November. I've learned so much just by reading up on the different boards. I think it's normal to be a little scared as its such a big step to actually try! I started taking prenatal vitamins a few months ago, and am exercising and working up on cleaning up my diet.

Thanks for the suggestions on the PAOS thread, ladies! I will definitely check it out.

I went ahead and ordered some ovulation strips. I figure it can't hurt!

I would agree with @lovelyplum and take a look and join the POAS thread. It is very comforting during the TTW when you kind of start going crazy. I was off BC for five months before I officially trying. I heard that it could take a while for your body to regulate coming off BC so I went off earlier than when we would actually try. I took that time also to get on a exercise plan that I could continue through my pregnancy and take vitamins.

I, very fortunately, got my BFP on first cycle of trying. I did not chart or temp or do anything like that. I was very aware of my possible O date since I had the symptoms so I just made sure to BD every day or every other day during that time.

Hope that everything goes well and good luck!!

Our situation is a little more complicated, because we just had a miscarriage a month ago. But I'd say I'm still a total noob because we got pregnant the first month we sort of halfway tried, so I didn't get (have?) to do all the charting and OPK's and stuff. We started trying immediately after the m/c too, so just started testing at least once a week because I don't know when to expect AF back, so I won't know if I'm late. (I also tested early on to get a negative, so I wouldn't worry any positives are false from the m/c.)

It's definitely still exciting and that kind of "omg are we really ready?!" scary! I have a couple baby books we got in Scotland, and I have them on a shelf where I see them a lot. They make me so excited to get to read them to our baby someday!

We will be starting soon. We just moved into a new house so want to give it a few months in the house and get caught up financially too. I also don't want to have a baby any earlier then August. ( I know it can take months but no earlier then that) I am a teacher and just starting a new grade and want to do a full year in it before going on any potential mat leave.
My DH and I have quickly gone from conversations of one day, to every time we are out and we see something baby related we both make a comment. He and I are doing research into which stroller, which crib, which car seat etc. it is cute. We saw a lady who was very pregnant yesterday and he started grinning. I asked him what was he thinking. He said that he was thinking that could be me next summer. It was cute. Of all the talking we do we are both petrified of pulling the trigger too. We have said right now start in the new year/ spring. See what is happening. The biggest issue for us is money. I get a full year mat leave ( go Canada) but I also make the majority of the money. I get topped to 90% for 18 weeks then go on EI. We were figuring out what that would look like and that is scary. S we need to build a savings cushion for that time. I have already said that I might not take the full year. Being a teacher I will go back at a time that makes sense. If said baby was born in November I would go back in September when school starts. If baby was born in Feb I would go back in Jan after Xmas break. We shall see what transpires but we are getting excited. I am getting my self ready- taking vitamins and folic acid which my doc said to take for 3 months prior to pulling the pin.
Good luck!

Hey ~
First, welcome!!!!

It's a very scary world of TTC! Haha :)

When DH & I TTC for our LO we took it easy the first few months as well and just had fun! ;) But I did temp and imputed my temps into Fertility Friend. That way it's a better way to know when I ovulate. Towards the end I started using Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) to further nail down when I will be ovulating.

Best of luck to you!

I was on Accutane (a very powerful acne medication that you absolutely can NOT get pregnant on) for 5 months, and finished up with it a little over two months ago. My doctors all say I'm good to go if I want to start trying. I went off birth control last month, and had my first post-BC period 30 days later. That's pretty spot on for being on BC for 10+ years, right? I'm pretty excited about that. I thought it would take longer to balance out.

I met with my new OBGYN (hated my old one) today, and she gave me the go-ahead, as well as pre-natal vitamins and a packet of information on trying to get pregnant. I guess talking to my husband to confirm if he's ready to go is next. We have had discussions leading up to this often..but it's different actually pulling the trigger!

Sorry for the rambling, I guess my question is, is anyone else in the same stage? Getting ready to start? Or just started? I'm nervous! I don't want to start the whole charting thing quite yet, just take the relaxed approach the first couple of months. Anyone else in the same boat? I am such a newb. I know none of the terminology, or even how to chart if I wanted to. Kinda hoping I'm not the only one who has no idea what the hell they're doing here! ;)
