@Foodnerd81: @Rainbow Sprinkles: Once DS was around 3 months, I did that as well. I would try to time it out so I could still eat with my right hand. DH would cut my meat up too!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: that's how I was with C- she was actually relatively easy to bring out to dinner as long as I order something that could be eaten one handed. I had a friend have to cut up my food like a toddler once though.

I just nursed at the dinner table and through whatever was happening. My 3 month old eats so frequently, if I left to nurse her, I'd miss out on everything!

I nurse pretty much everywhere. I do the up/down shirt method so it's fairly discreet. And now my son doesn't get distracted too much, so I don't have to miss much. We'll see how long that lasts.

@JennyG: getting out of dishes is an ex Ellen's perk!!!

@ElbieKay: yeah not possible for me in that situation for various reasons and it was very loud in a tiny house.

@Mrs. J: yes!! My almost 3 month old is already very distracted, he needs quiet and I'm not allowed to talk haha.

@JennyG: it's definitely a good excuse to avoid dishes!! Ooh sorry the baby is hungry again! :)

I'm actually welcoming the quiet time. I will happily nurse in public but do feel weird around bils. But the baby is still so little we need quiet to focus on it.

Please consider just nursing in "public". There is no need to sequester yourself unless it's necessary for your child (e.g., you are trying to get them to sleep, and being around other people is too distracting).

Honestly one of the reasons I didn't want to nurse was MIL always in my house and never feeling privacy. (This was like 1% of the reason, though.) so I feel for you. Even pumping for awhile was frustrating in terms of privacy. Even bottle feeding my fussy first baby was tough with the holidays. Hope your lo cooperates!

I have no problem whipping out the boob at a party, but LO is so distracted these days I can't even so much as have a conversation with DH without her popping off and whipping around to check out the surroundings. So this is going to be me tomorrow. I had to nurse her in a hotel lobby bar today after we viewed the downtown gingerbread village and she was off every ten seconds to look at something. Thanks baby, I wanted everybody in the city to see my nipple on Christmas Eve.

@pregnantbee: not with this group, but the group on Saturday I will, I think. Part of being isolated was also that he seemed overwhelmed with the noise and needed some quiet.

Why do family gatherings take soooooooo long sometimes. 2.5 hours waiting for dinner. Then present opening just took 1.5 hrs (after 45 min trying to get everyone in one room), no dessert still but it's 8:45 and I have a 3yo and an infant!! Let's move it along!! Even the 8 yo's are fading.

Not this year, but this is how I felt when I had all family descend at once several weeks after LO was born (now 3.5 years). I felt so isolated, but I was still so uncomfortable and clumsy with BF, I kept nursing in his room, and I felt like I was missing everything. Never got hot food - ha!

Is there any way you'd be ok nursing with a cover/blanket in the corner of the room where everyone else is?

In the hospital I had ONE meal arrive hot as she was actually sleeping- and the in house pediatrician came in and examined her and pissed her off so I had to let me meal get cold yet again.
