@MommySLP: yeah I think the daycare's policy is if they don't nap after a short period of time, they go into the other room and must do a quiet activity. I am going to ask them tomorrow how long they try for... another thing I thought of is that daycare naptime is 45 minutes earlier than naptime here! It's because he sleeps in, and since DH starts work at 9 or 10am every day, he has the flexibility to sleep until 8am! so he's not tired at noon I'm sure.

@Mrs. Pen: she didn't nap the first two days, but then started after that. She has been in a twin bed since 18 mo, so maybe that helps, I'm not sure? I think she's realized everyone's napping, so she kinda follows along. I know the rule is you don't have to sleep, but you have to lay down for a bit of quiet time. Of course, most of the kids end up falling asleep then! Maybe he could lay down quietly with a couple books and see what happens? If she is protesting napping at home I tell her she has to lay down for quiet time and some books and 95% of the time she falls asleep. Bad news is, this weekend she only slept for an hour at home during naps!!! Hoping it's just an adjustment period!

E started at 20 months? He's adapted amazingly well. It took a few weeks for his naps to get sorted out--maybe two or three, I think? There was one day it was only 15 minutes....it was a rough few weeks, but now he takes 2-3 hour naps there.

@MommySLP: thanks for sharing! I am assuming even if he does start napping, it will be shorter too! Does your daughter still take longer naps at home then? J's naps at home are also 2-2.5 hours.
One of my friends started her son at 2 as well and she said for the first two weeks he didn't nap and then would sleep all weekend from exhaustion! How long before your daughter learned to nap there?
Does she nap in a crib? DH wondered in transitioning him to a toddler bed might make it easier? But the daycare teacher said that in time, most kids realize sleeping at daycare is different than sleeping at home and adjust. I hope so!

@Mrs. Pen: we just started my kids in daycare last week. My Daughter is 31 months and it's definitely been a rougher transition than I expected! I thought it would be hard for my 8 month old, but it's been a breeze for him! My daughter has taken naps there (on a small cot, with everyone in one room), but only for 45-60 mins, where as at home she'll sleep 2.5 hours. I guess it's better than nothing, but our afternoons/evenings have been rough! We've had to go back to an extra early bedtime, which means she's up earlier & it just starts a vicious cycle! Hoping it evens out soon! Good luck!

Did anyone else transition their LO to daycare once they were older - like 18-24m+? How did it go?

J is 2.5 and until now has had a family member watch him PT while I worked PT and juggled school... with me in FT nursing school now, he's in daycare and he just started today... He does fine there, but he doesn't nap - he had a trial day too and both times no nap or even close... so it makes for a miserable evening... I'm not sure how long it will take for him to learn to nap there? It's a completely different set up - small cots, all the toddlers in one room together whereas at home, he's in his crib, with white noise and his own room.
