Get through this last year then you have lots more decisions at your feet. </p> <p>I def got burned out by work, well mainly the BS that went with it. I was a post-doc in infectious diseases when I got pregnant and my husband's an MD/PhD student. He talked about taking a year off if things were going well since I was unhappy but having good collaborations/papers, figured suffer through to get somewhere. But things went to shit once I announced my pregnancy and I really just needed a mental break after all the BS.</p> <p>I love being at home with my daughter and there's zero part of me that can imagine working 70-80 hour weeks with a LO while my husband was a 3rd year med student. We live a much more relaxed life and DH gets lots of LO time. I work part time sometimes but I do wish I could focus on finding a bit more work in line with my goals, I just love staying at home a little too much though so I find it hard to get motivated to put myself back out there and baby #2 is on the way. </p> <p>I feel your pain but finish up and you'll have lots of options whether you decide you want to work full time or part time or both you and your husband do some combo of something. Most days I love my job, and I do love my niche practice area. But other days I hate the people I have to deal with and how mean the overall industry (law) has seemed to become lately. Then I think about the tens of thousands of dollars of student loans and just want to cry. I'm not sure if SAHM will ever be a possibility (of if I'd ever really want that). While I dont think I could ever be a full time sahm I would love to work a whole lot less. I am in deep student loan debt and will be working a ton until I feel its manageable. Its definitely changed my thoughts on building my family as I know I cant handle more kiddos and work right now. It sucks, but im hoping in 5-6 years a significant portion of my loans will be gone and ill be in a much better situation to have more family time. My pediatrician works two days a week and she has four kids. Every time I go to an appointment I am always a little jealous of her setup. I work so much and wish I had the kind of job I could pick my hours. One of my neighbors is a family medicine doctor and she works ten twelve hour shifts a month at an urgent care center. Twenty days off each month. Anything but work sounds amazing to me right now, and even when I am at work I think about other things- I seriously have the strong desire to be a SAHM right now... maybe one day in the future, but right now I have to finish residency. One more year to go..</p> <p>Maybe it is because I am almost 30- my baby clock is ticking. My career oriented clock is not right now.</p> <p>Anyone else have a demanding job? What do you love about it? What do you hate about it? Do you find yourself thinking about being a SAHM? </p>
