DH and I have sort of joked about having the wrong embryo transferred before, but we were really horrified to see that this actually happens. Something I kept wondering was why they didn't tell the couple until it came time to tell them the results of the beta test, 10 days after transfer- surely they must have noticed their mistake before then. Would they have just not told her if she weren't pregnant? I even had to carry my DH's washed sample from the lab window to the room for my IUI after personally checking the ID number and name on the tube. There was no excuse for this. Eventually the savages surrogate did carry a twin pregnancy to term so they have five kids now.<br /> I don't know what happened with the m family though- I got the impression that they couldn't try again and that embryo was their last chance.<br /> I just can't imagine how the mom who carried the wrong baby did it. She wanted her own baby so badly then she had to carry someone else's to term. Amazing. She decided to carry the baby for the other couple and at the same time found a surrogate to carry her extra embryo, since by the time she gave birth to the other couple's baby she would be 42 and likely too old to carry her own child.</p> <p>However just 8 days after she gave birth to the baby and handed it over to the other couple, her surrogate miscarried :( </p> <p>It looks like both families have a close relationship though! Crazy stuff - both these women are so strong! I can't imagine what I would do in that situation. </p>
