My sister had this issue when she was a toddler...obviously this was a long time ago, but I remember my mom saying something about my sister having some sort of air pocket in her stomach which caused the vomiting.

@mrswin: he hasn't learned to do it on demand yet. But I do worry about a weak gag reflex. It doesn't happen everytime he stuffs his mouth. It is very random.

@T.H.O.U.: ours is 24 hours after vomiting. Most of the time when it happens at home I don't tell them. His long term school won't send him home but they know him better. His new school is more strict.

@mrbee: randomly not every time with dairy? We reintroduced dairy a year ago when his allergy test didn't show it as an issue. We haven't given him soy so it shouldn't be that. A missed issue is my biggest concern.

Charlie used to do it too... it turned out to be a dairy sensitivity! Once we switched him to soy/help milk, he stopped throwing up as much...

Its interesting your daycare doesn't realize this is not sickness related? Ours has a policy that only if they vomit twice are they sent home. I would suggest talking to your doctor and see if they can write a note for daycare that this is a known issue for him.

@brownie: My nephew used to do this pretty frequently. He is 5 now and he grew out of it by the time he was about 3-3.5. They never determined what the cause, the doctor suggested a weak gag reflex or over-eating. One concern was that for a while he could do it "on demand" so if he was in trouble for throwing food on the floor or something he would gag and throw up. It got to the point when we would know that was what he was going to do and if you told him not to do it he could stop it. Not sure if this is helpful because your situation sounds different. Have you mentioned it to the ped?

So, my son will just randomly cough and vomit. Typically it is associated with eating food. He is 2 1/2 and been on solids starting at 6 months so it is strange. For instance today we were at dland and he was eating his popcorn when he coughed and vomited three times. Sometimes he doesn't even cough and he just vomits. It isn't associated with being sick because he is just fine before and after.

Unfortunately though when he does this he gets sent home from preschool which is difficult for us.

Anyone else's kid do this? Do they grow out if it or could there be something wrong with his eating?
