My Mom made the dress so I got the painting as a gift. This one was just off etsy and was more affordable. I had wanted to buy one of her pieces for a long time but it was just a crazy amount of money for a painting of someone I didn't know. </p> <p>It is a painting of my Great-Grandma with my two kids. The artist took a photo of my son with my Great-Grandma and photoshopped my daughter into it. I got to approve the photoshopped image and then she sent me updates over the year (!) it took to paint it.</p> <p>This was an artist I adored so I gave her free reign. I can be picky about faces, but I loved all her work so I wasn't too worried about it. </p> <p>It wasn't cheap or fast but the final result is amazing. As a gift to my parents to thank them for helping with our wedding, we had one of their favorite local artists do a painting inspire by one of their favorite photographs from the wedding. It's abstract so doesn't look like us, but it definitely resembles the photo and they absolutely love the finished piece. I told her a few of the parts of the house that I really wanted her to highlight (specific plants and a garden arbor they had to leave behind) and she did great. I showed her the samples of her work i really liked, and what look i was going for.</p> <p>When you're commissioning art, i would be sure that you're familiar with the artist's work so you're not surprised by what you get. I am thinking about it for DH...something for him to hang in his office. I have a great picture of him and DD1 that basically doesnt have faces (or not much facial detail)...which is usually the part of a painting that I have issues with. So I am thinking it could be cool... </p>
