I'm not sure if it saves us money but I want to know where my meat comes from. You talk to the butcher.... I actually found that using up the steak was the hardest for me. We just ordered another quarter which I should pick up this weekend. We've done the math and we think it is cheaper to buy a quarter beef than at the store. It might not be cheaper for ground beef but it is definitely cheaper on the steaks and nicer cuts. They LOVE it and they are both very, very frugal. They have totally done the math and say its worth it/saves money. My dad raises them and sells what is left after family takes a pass at it. This last steer was seriously some of the best beef I've ever had! We buy it from DH's uncle, so we know exactly how it's raised and what it's fed. It definitely saves us money and it's nice to know the meat is coming from a rancher who takes pride in how his animals are raised - they are very healthy and raised on wonderful pasture.
