We haven't shipped one but we put it on a truck and had it driven from South Carolina to San Francisco. It cost about $1000.

thanks, ladies! the range of prices out there seems wide but its great to know what I can expect. I was thinking $1000...hopefully it won't get much more than that.

We used http://www.transportreviews.com to find south beach transport. We used them 3 months ago to ship our SUV from FL to TX.
They weren't the cheapest $600, nor the most expensive $2100......it was $900 total.
They use a network of independent drivers and I was extremely satisfied.

@Cchoi4: we did this a few years ago and it was around $700 for Ohio to AZ, and then my mom gave us her old car about two years ago. I don't remember how much it was or who they used, but I can find out if you want...

@bluestriped bee: I considered doing the same for mine (PA to WA) two years ago and the price had gone up quite a bit -- I think most of the quotes were more in the vicinity of $1800 +. In the end, I didn't think it was worth it so I signed it over to my dad and he sold it, and we bought a newer car after we got here.

We were quoted $1500 to sail my Mustang from the US to England. I guess it depends on the carrier.

I haven't done it myself so I can't recommend a carrier but I think my friend told me it was $2500 to ship from NYC to LA. It might not be worth the expense depending on the car.

I thought i'd ask the women here on hellobee:

Have you ever shipped a car cross country? In our case it would be from Chicago to LA.

My sister is in need of a car and since we have an older model that we can certainly give to her, I was wondering how much something like this will run us?

I don't want to go super cheap since I hear some carriers do a not so great job (i.e. car has damaged parts by the end of the trip).

If you have done something like this, could you share the carrier and how much it was?
