The best way I've found is to STEAM THEM. Just boil the water, put them in a steamer basket or a bamboo steamer, set the timer for 12 minutes, PERFECTION!

@Mrs. Rabbit: @LemonLong: @Alivoo01: @Mrs. Grizzly Bear: also, the older the egg, the easier it is to peel. Apparently I've done a lot of research on hard boiled eggs....(going back to my nerdy hard boiled egg home now....) :) http://slate.me/W8Na4X

@mediagirl: okay, that seems pretty simple. Totally trying to make some tonight.

Sometimes the simplest cooking leaves me baffled.

I've tried it in the oven without the towel. Just placed them directly on the rack. Didn't really make things easier.

I do them like @mediagirl: mentions, but I let my eggs kind of come up to room temperature before putting it in the pot. The shell comes right off! So easy. I find that putting cold eggs into the pot makes the shell harder to peel and sometimes, the shells crack during the boil process. And once the water boils, I remove it from the heat, put the lid on, and wait 10 minutes. Then dump out hot water and put ice and water in the pot for them to cool off a bit. then peel.

I've made them in the oven! I don't remember how I did it, but I think I followed one of those Pinterest things and it worked. However hearing that eggs explode in the oven makes me more cautious!

I don't remember there being a difference between cooking them in the oven or on the stove. Tasted the same.

Nope. I do them on the stove. Put some vinegar in the water and bring to a rolling boil. Leave boiling for 15 minutes. Take off and immediately put in a bowl of ice water or run under cold water.

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: if they don't like a plain hard boiled egg, try egg salad with just a little mayo, salt and pepper. M seems to love it. :)

@Mrs.Someone: I admit, your first sentence made me giggle. "Beware, eggs can epxlode in the oven!" We should make stickers like that and stick them on the egg cartons ;)

@mediagirl: I may try then. The kids have never had a hard boiled egg and if I can make them well and in large batches, we could start using them for lunches! Assuming they eat them of course... but I love deviled eggs so even if they don't, I'm good ;)

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: I have not but here is my tried and true recipe for perfect hard boiled eggs.

Put eggs in pot.
Cover with water.
Set pot on stovetop.
Set heat to high.
Once the water starts boiling, set a timer for 10 minutes.
When the timer goes off, remove the pot from the heat.
Set the timer for another 10 minutes.
Remove eggs from water, place in bowl, place bowl in fridge.

Beware, eggs can explode in the oven! For passover, its customary to roast an egg, so I once tried it from a raw egg and had to clean my oven :) I didn't follow any instructions though, I think I just put it on broil until it looked toasty.

I admit, I'm rather useless in the kitchen. I can cook pasta pretty consistently and that's about it. So when I came across a few Pinterest posts claiming that you could hard boil eggs in the oven I got excited! Finally, maybe less guess work and I could make them in bulk without fear of getting some raw ones.

But then I stumbled across this:

http://pinterestfail.com/2013/09/11/fail-baked-hard-cooked-eggs/

Anyone ever try it? How did it turn out? What recipe/method did you use??
