My old coffee bar had a Chemex option, and I loved watching the barrista make coffee this way. It also tasted really smooth. Sadly, I moved to a different city last year, and haven't had it since. I considered buying one myself, then got pregnant. They aren't difficult to use, but you want the right (and consistent) grain size for your pour.

@birdofafeather: Thanks for the recommendation! I think SIL is getting him an Amazon gift card so this will be perfect.

I also got DH this Hario manual ceramic burr grinder to go with his Chemex.

@macintosh: We do have a kitchen scale that we received as a wedding gift a couple of years ago. I will have to dig it out.

Yum! We had one before we broke it and we'll get one again when we move to a bigger place. I also recommend the Hario kettle for the chemex! http://www.amazon.com/Hario-Buono-Coffee-Drip-Kettle/dp/B000IGOXLS

The Chemex makes great coffee! My DH is obsessed with different coffee brewing methods and this is one if my favorites for taste. Make sure you get a kitchen scale to weigh the grinds if you don't have one already. I think he'll love it!

It's really easy. I gave my husband one last Christmas... More labor intensive then the French press in that you have to pour the water slowly into the filter so, for me, it's my weekend cup of coffee. But DH is a total coffee snob and he just loves it.

DH is a big coffee fan, and he has been wanting one of these so I got him one for Christmas this year. We have not tested it out yet because it is wrapped up under the tree, but I have watched some YouTube videos on how to use it. Just wondering if anyone has used one of these, and if you like it.

We have several different kinds of coffee makers already (a regular drip coffee maker, a French press, and a moka pot). How does the coffee from the Chemex compare to these coffee makers?
