i think it was fine to walk out. after waiting that long and 2 non-answers, what are they expecting of you? i switched practices at the beginning of my 2nd trimester because i had had 2 appointments with the previous OB practice where i was waiting for over an hour, and they also f*cked up in getting my harmony results back to me. it was also extremely difficult to talk to someone on the phone. i didn't want to be waiting over an hour each time i went in. with my new practice, i am in and out in under 30 minutes (with my first pregnancy a few years ago, i was living somewhere else and also had an efficiently run OB practice, so i knew that short wait times was possible, and that there was probably a problem with office management).

@LulaBee: glad they called and apologized.. And those appointment times are awesome! :) I would be worried all the time too if I had losses. Not sure when you're due but hopefully once you feel baby youll at least have that reassurance.

I switched doctors because I always had to wait 1.5 hours or more for every visit. This was only when I was making gynecological/family planning visits, so I can't imagine how bad it would be when pregnant.

I followed my OB/gyn to her new practice, and when I talked to the receptionist there, she badmouthed the old practice saying that they had a policy of triple-booking. WHY. So a bunch of them left and started their own thing, and I never had to wait there.

Call me crazy but I really don't think that a two hour wait is acceptable in any field! I understand that emergencies crop up and running late isn't always preventable but being consistently two hours behind is just poor planning!

Yes, at a post delivery visit too. They were running way behind and almost 2 hours into waiting , I told the receptionist I had to go because my baby needed me and I'd make another appointment later. They tried to get me to stay but I couldn't wait any longer. I did reassure them it wasn't personal - I just didn't plan on having a sitter for 3+ hours and needed to go home and feed my baby. They had to understand that as much as I had to understand things happen (they had a few emergencies that morning ).

It's unfortunate the staff wasn't more communicative. I know how my OB is and I always made an effort to see her as early in the day as possible. It made my appointments much more punctual. And honestly, it's what I aim for in all my medical appointments - early. It means they have less opportunity to get behind.

I did, but it was my first visit there so I had no attachment to the practice. They kept me waiting for an hour and then the receptionist starting packing up to go to lunch! I was like wait a minute, is someone going to come out to see me??? Then they told me that there was an emergency, but I was already too upset because I was kept waiting with no explanation. I left and the OB called me to apologize, but I was already too annoyed with them to try again.

I haaaaate waiting for OB appointments, especially since there are so many! One reason I love my doctors is because they almost never make the patients wait. I might have walked out too, after telling the front desk exactly why I was leaving.

I switched practices in my early second trimester and I'm so glad I did. One of my first appointments I ended up getting a parking ticket because I was waiting in the back room for over an hour after I had already waited 45 minutes in the main waiting room. If I had still been in the main room I could have left to go feed the meter but I was totally nude just wearing those paper gowns waiting for the doctor. That was definitely the most frustrating appointment ever.

I never walked out, but when I was pregnant I felt like everyone thought I should just able to spend all of my time at appointments. Even if I had to wait for an hour+. And if I suggested that I needed to be at work, then I got the attitude of "Well this is for the health of your baby, isn't that what's important?"

IDK if it was hormones but I felt totally disrespected as a working and pregnant woman. It was hugely stressful on me and had me in tears sometimes.

There are all kinds of things that push appointments back - especially at an ob office - deliveries, decreased fetal movement etc... and most of the people there probably have babies at home so nobody wants to just sit around in the office. I think mentioning your wait would've been more appropriate and then you wouldn't have had to reschedule. :)

The site supervisor of OB office called and apologized, asked what they could do to make it better. So from now on, I'll either have first am or first after lunch appointment. I told her if someone had just told me what was going on (one u/s room was closed due to vacation), I would have been fine waiting. I was just frustrated that I asked 2 people at different times and they were dismissive.

@msplatypus: that is a bad experience- glad you switched providers. I think a lot of it boils down to that, feeling like a priority. I know they see a ton of people daily, but should still be respectful of every patient they have.

Oh yeah, I walked out of my six week checkup. I showed up on time and nicely told front desk that I have a little baby at home and if they could please ask the doctor to see me a little sooner. There weren't even that many people, and I reminded them, nicely, a couple more times. After I'd been there two hours, they put me in a waiting room and left me there for another 40 minutes. So I turned around and left.

I knew I had to come back a week later of course, but it was just too much.
