We just found out today at 18 weeks that our girl has this-- our midwife (we see her in a Drs office) has me seeing a specialist next week to discuss but growth etc. is looking good so far.

@momtimes3 I hope everything is going well so far?

My daughter had this and it was hard to get info. We had a fetal echocardiogram and additional growth ultrasounds. She was born vaginally full term and weighed 1 lb more than my first. I found some Drs had very dramatic stats and some literally said its no big deal, this puts you at no more risk.

From what I understood if SUA is seen in isolation, no other abnormalities seen on ultrasound, then risks of any congenital defect, low birth weight, etc are very low. It's just that in some congenital defects, SUA is one of many growth problems that occur, so when you look at some studies percentages of major problems can look very high. But most of those are chromosomal abnormalities where multiple defects would be detected on ultrasound.

I had SUA with my first. Outside of a ton of growth ultrasounds, two feta echocardiograms, and being evaluated by a pediatric cardiologist immediately upon birth (some of her fetal echo numbers came back sketchy), she was born full term at 7 lbs, 10 oz and has zero issues. She is now a happy and thriving almost three year old! I remember the stress and anxiety clearly though. Wishing you and your babies the best!

Same story as Xfinity for the two I know who dealt with this. One went over a week past her due date and had a 10 lb baby boy! The other had a healthy baby girl via c section. Good luck. Hopefully the additional monitoring will provide reassurance instead of anxiety.

My friend had it with her daughter. She had lots of growth ultrasounds after they found it but LO had no issues and was born full term. That little girl is about to turn 4 in January. Totally healthy and normal. Wishing you the same!

Sorry you're going through this-my son, too, had SUA (Single Umbilical Artery). From what I recall, it's more frequently found in females and twins-so your daughter fits the bill in that regard (my singleton son was a bit of a head-scratcher for having it). We were lucky that it didn't seem to cause any issues with his growth in-utero. We did have a kind of rough delivery experience. It wasn't caused by the SUA, but I don't think it helped things, either (his heart rate kept dropping and there was a cord prolapse issue during the c-section I eventually had). Again, it could be coincidental, but you asked for info so I'm sharing my experience. It sounds like your doctors are on top of it, though, so hopefully you feel confident in your medical team. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and delivery!
