@Boogs: She was discharged from the hospital yesterday. They gave her meds so she can take them again if she feels like her heart rate is beating fast. Actually, her fitbit shows pretty clearly how high it was. Her fitbit thought she was excercising for 228 minutes on Sunday!

@bluestriped bee: That's exactly what I had. The cardio said the extra circuit had been there forever, but was triggered by pregnancy. I had an ablation done post-pregnancy and haven't had any issues since. Good luck to her!

I had tachycardia with my second pregnancy pretty early on like around 6 weeks. It ended in m/c at 8 so I was never really treated for it. Very strange too since it never happened during my other pregnancies.

@Boogs: Not her twins. She's a surrogate for a friend. But it's very cool that she is able to feel what it's like to be pregnant with twins. People keep asking her if twins run in the family. It's a tricky question to answer. haha.

Turns out my sister has an extra circuit in her heart since birth. Pregnacy just brought the symptoms out.

I developed this prior to pregnancy, went through a ton of testing, and they determined it happens "unknown causes"....however, they did say that a number of things can trigger them to happen: not enough water, too much caffeine (including chocolate), not enough sleep, too much stress, etc. I have yearly check ups and testing to monitor it. I had the all clear before we tried getting pregnant. He said that pregnancy can trigger them more or make them go away. I luckily have not had more of them, just one minor one. However, once I became pregnant, my ob/midwife ran additional thyroid testing and it came back too high for pregnancy (they were within normal range although on the higher side pre-pregnancy) so I've been on medicine for my thyroid since then. Your thyroid levels apparently can trigger them.

My sister is in the hospital now for SVT. Her HR was upto 189 (laying on the couch) when I saw her at her home yesterday. I was trying to convince her to go to UC or something. She ended up going to the ER last night. They gave her some meds to restart her heart pattern. It seemed to have worked so far and she is hoping to be discharged today. She is 23 weeks pregnant with twins. I hope the meds work because I think if it doesn't work, the next step would be to sedate her and give her an electric shock. Hoping she doesn't need that. Oh, good news is the babies are doing well and is not really affected. The were more worried about my sister.

I do, but mine are from mitral valve prolapse. The heart is under a lot of stress during pregnancy, but if the doctor said it's okay, then great!

Finally got my test results back from the Cardio Doc. EKG and Echo are fine. Heart monitor picked up the palpitations. He said I could take some meds to help regulate them. However, because of the baby didn't want to do that just yet. I also have very low blood pressure and he was concerned that the meds would cause it to drop too much. So he said tough it out for the next 5 months until the baby gets here. So that's my update. I've actually had fewer palpitations since getting the results back. So I'm thinking it was a result of the stress etc.

I have a heart condition with palpitations that was diagnosed much before my pregnancy, it was worse when i had caffeine so i cut that out of my diet years ago and mostly eliminated the palpitations. Now that i'm pregnant i get them occasionally.

When i first got the palpitations I talked with my sister about it who is in med school (for neuroscience, so it's unrelated to cardiac but she's very very smart) and she did some research for me. She found some medical studies that showed you could get rid of the palpitations by plugging your nose and blowing like you're trying to pop your ears. Sure enough, it works for me every time! Doesn't cure anything, but gets rid of the discomfort

I get them when I get low iron. So I started getting them more and more and more while pregnant. Like a few times an hour. I didn't realize it was related to iron, but once the iron treatment started, things started getting better. Iron checks are routine parts of the blood tests though. Just see if they have checked your iron level - it's an easy thing to fix if so.

I did and when I mentioned it to my MD she suggested I make sure I am keeping myself hydrated. I paid really close attention to my water intake and there was for sure a correlation and they didn't happen as long as I drank enough water. Hoping this is the case for you!!

@turkeylurkey: I have something called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, just for reference. There wasn't a lot they could do. They just told me to take it easy as much as possible. I was in my third trimester already, so they did lots of tests and just waited for me to give birth. I wore around a monitor for a while. I also required additional monitoring and restrictions during labor (had to have pain meds because they weren't sure my heart could handle it, couldn't push for an extended amount of time) I've been recommended for the ablation surgery as well, I just haven't had it done yet.

I had problems with SVTs during my first pregnancy. A few times the palpitations would make me pass out. It turned out I had a heart condition (known as AVNRT) and had a cardiac ablation done when LO was a few weeks old. Now I'm on my second pregnancy and haven't had any issues. My situation definitely wasn't the norm though - I know many people have palpitations during pregnancy with no underlying conditions. Good luck at the cardio. He may have you wear a monitor for a few days. That's how they eventually picked up my issues.

I have SVT which causes palpatations. There is no heart defect though. I got it a few times when I was pregnant but not in labor. I did see a cardio and there was a special cardio monitor in the hospital but it really wasn't a big deal just sort of an inconvenience. I know each person is different though so follow through with the cardio and hang in there. Ask your DR about vagal maneuvers if this is your problem.

Yes. It started when i was pregnant and turns out that i have a heart defect that causes palpitations and tachycardia. Obviously, that's not the normal outcome, though.

So I'm back again on here. Hard to believe that my LO is now 2 and I'm expecting the 2nd one! I'm 13.5 weeks

I recently started having heart palpitations. AT first it was only when I lay on my left side. The OB said that was fine it was only from positioning and not to lay on my left side. Sure that's great!
Now it's began to happen when lying flat and sometimes sitting up. So they have me going to a Cardio doc this week to have some testing done.
Anyone else experience this?
