@FarmWifeGina: I'm waiting for his biopsy results from the other day to come back before deciding. I also need to decide on and source a meat...we already decided if we go GAPS not to use a meat (at least at first) he reacted to, so we need something more obscure. We just don't like him being on the dose of medication he is on for an extended periods of time and I hear so many testimonials of LO's being able to go off the meds on GAPS so we are hopeful. Plus it's natural so what can it hurt to give it a shot?!

BTW, I found this amazing blog entry about dehydrating broth into a powder for travel or extending storing! I'm super excited about that because he could always have his "safe" broth when away from home, if we go this route! So many cool and interesting things out there I've never thought of before all this! We really look at food differently around here these days.

@anbanan15: With all of those issues, I think I would seriously consider GAPS too. It can't hurt to try and I don't think there's really any expensive stuff to buy right at the beginning.

@FarmWifeGina: I just saw this post on a blog I follow if it is helpful! http://www.veganricha.com/2013/06/gluten-free-strawberry-sandwich-bread.html

I've read about it for my niece who has digestive health problems, but haven't heard or known anyone who follows it.

@Mrs. Pen: I haven't read the GAPS book yet, but I'm looking into it for my son and his FPIES and GERD...I hear so many great things about it helping restore healthy gut flora and relieving symptoms and some are even able to tolerate foods they previously couldn't. I think the principles of GAPS are used long term, like the broth, but there is a detox phase and then adding foods back in etc.

If we did it I don't think we would do full GAPS, at least not at first, since that requires stopping all formula etc, but rather use the key principles like the broth. I'm just nervous because he has not been able to tolerate meat in my breastmilk in the past and is essentially vegan (eats salmon rarely, but tolerates it), but the broth is supposed to be different, proteins more broken down and you do a real slow intro, like a teaspoon at a time...I've also heard others say their children previously couldn't tolerate meat, but GAPS helped that.

I'm not brave enough, but I've read a lot about it. I have a hard enough learning how to bake GF, GAPS just sounds entirely overwhelming right now. But I'm sure we would all feel pretty amazing after a few weeks.

I don't but I hear a lot about it from all the healthy blogs I read and interested to know more. Isn't it generally done as a temporary thing as sort of a detox and then make a lifestyle change permanently? Or can it be eaten long term?

I don't, but I've seen some things about it on the Gentle Christian Mothers boards when looking for some CD and babywearing info.

I know the Paleo diet is pretty popular around here, but I was wondering if anyone followed the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) diet for themselves or their LO's? Has the diet helped you systematically? Which meats do you use for your meat and/or bone broth?

*I wasn't sure if this should go under food/drink, your health, or baby health, so I put it here.
