Ugh how frustrating. I would just do whatever you have to do to make it easy on yourself-- dress more comfortably, take your time getting in in the morning and don't push yourself to stay late... I mean, if you won't get fired for it of course :)

At least it really isn't too long now. Hope the time goes quickly.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: yah, it's a really large company and HR has to play it safe i guess, they don't want people scamming the system, or don't want to have to make individual judgements, is my guess. There is about 10% of my job I can't do remotely, but I had hoped I could swap those tasks out for someone else's. Oh well, maternity leave isn't that far off so I'll just have to keep taking it slow.

@LazyLightning: that makes me ragey! I used to work from home full time. I worked in sales and my boss was 2 states away. Big deal! If they have clear expectations it should be obvious that you're getting work done. Makes me so mad, so many managers are stuck in the dark ages.

Well my request was denied. Lots of political reasons for that. I am allowed to start FMLA early, but I really didn't want to do that since it's less time for me to spend with the baby. bummer. I was really hopeful that I could continue to do my work from home.

I had to work from home a couple of years ago. Well, I didn't *have* to but I had a medical condition and procedure done where I couldn't sit, walk, etc. I felt more comfortable working from home those 3 weeks because I didn't want to use any PTO and didn't want to look like a liability, being out for 3 weeks. Our HR department put up a huge fuss over it but begrudgingly approved it after the doctor wrote a note.

The issue stated to me was that if I injured myself in some way because of my condition while working, even if from home, they would be liable.

@littlek: nope. I don't have an official condition to put me on bed rest. Just a lot of complications as mentioned above, that would make it "beneficial" for me to not be driving around or be somewhere where I have to wear restrictive clothing and not have my feet up. So no bed rest. Also my company doesn't do STD. We do FMLA but I'd rather not call that up right now because I don't want to burn before my kid comes - it would mean less time with her after she arrives.

Are you on bed rest? Because that's STD ad I don't think there is anything your boss can do about that.

@LazyLightning: I totally agree about your point. I could sit at my computer all day and do nothing and no one would notice, but they worry right away when you work from home. It's stupid.

@Foodnerd81: right! I'd rather be still doing my job - i mean, getting paid, yes, but also, not pushing my work off on others. I would go on leave early if I need to at this point... but I do NOT want that to mean I also have to come back from my leave early. I still want all that time with my kid when she's born.

@marionberry: My job is the same-- my manager is very flexible on work from home as needed, but if you actually go through HR there is paperwork and hoops to jump through. In this situation, I think she would just say to do it but not go through HR.

@LazyLightning: I hope they work it out for you! It just seems so dumb for you to be pushing yourself to get in to the office when you can just as easily do it from home (my job is the same). Otherwise, I would expect your doctor to recommend you go on leave early or something which would be worse, from the company's perspective, I would think. Good luck.

@marionberry: Yeah... I thought about that... I'm more than willing to record what i do with my time. Funny thing is, they don't require that while at the office. I could just go in there and sit all day and do nothing if I wanted to - no one really checks what you're doing any given moment - as long as the work gets done. Funny how 'work from home' suddenly means 'distrustful'.

My boss currently lets me work from home on occasion and I know he'd be super apt to let me work from home for a month in a condition like yours, but I also know that our HR department actually doesn't allow working from home so it's very "under the table". He just may need to consult with your HR department to see what he can do. The problem for them is usually that they can't verify you're getting any work done when you're at home.

I've had... a LOT of issues while pregnant. nothing high risk or scary, just a lot of awfulness. A partial list includes -

--Very painful round ligament pain (makes me gasp)
--BH contractions so strong I sweat and get dizzy (they are BH, I had 2 NSTs..)
--Moderate edema in knees and downward thru feet, also mild in hands. The skin in these areas feels 'bruised' from it.
--Knee pain from a preexisting condition, exasperated by extra weight (very painful/hard to get up from sitting or climb stairs)
--Strained shoulder (probably from pulling myself up instead of using my knees)
--Dizzy/vertigo
--Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea that comes on suddenly, night or day regardless of what or when I eat or what I'm doing

(Probably 10 more things I could list here).

I'm 35 weeks, almost 36.

Today my Dr. wrote me a note saying it would be better for me to work from home. Mainly due to the mobility issues but also the nausea and dizziness.

I was thrilled to get it. It means not having to shower, dress professionally, or make the drive in. (God, i was so sick on my drive home tonight. It is so SUDDEN!) But since I have like a month left before baby, I'd like to keep on doing my job, and I have the kind of job that could be done remotely pretty easily. I even have all the equipment I need, including a company laptop.

But... when I went back to work and showed my supervisor... I got a feeling that the request might be denied. Hopefully that's just me being negative, but I was told we can meet about it in a few days after others are consulted.

So I don't know what to think. I mean it doesn't say I 'have' to work from home. Just says it'd be better for me due to complications. Argh.
