I had LO1 when I was 36 and am expecting LO2. I didn't have to try long for both but wonder if the complications I have had (e.g.GD) come with AMA.

I turned 35 when I was about 7 weeks pregnant. Yes, I got monitoring but it was more for my very large fibroids than my age.

@regberadaisy: I turned 35 the day after my due date with T. They didn't even bother checking my weight or blood pressure or anything, actually, after that and I went another nine days. Seems they were less worried once I became old :silly:

@winniebee: hugs. isn't it funny though how quickly we change our minds? was talking to dh on a car ride today and kind of suddenly decided we want a 3rd... in another 4 to 5 years, which would put me in AMA. good luck!

@regberadaisy: My second was due one week after I turned 35 and I was considered AMA.

We tried for #3 just after I turned 36, it took 4 mos and I think I had one chemical pregnancy. Our first took 17 mos and second was BFP on the first month trying. Still debating about #4, I keep thinking there's no way I will have a fourth healthy fetus/baby (it doesn't help that I work in a children's hospital so I see all the things that can go wrong!).

@regberadaisy: I had just turned 35 with my 2nd pregnancy and nothing was different than with my 1st until I was diagnosed with GD. Then I had all kinds of monitoring. I wonder if it depends on the doctor?

@winniebee: I was just thinking about this the other day. What if you're stil 34 when you get pregnant but turn 35 before delivering? Does the pregnancy still go into the AMA/high risk category? I'm 33 1/2 now and there's a good chance I'll be 35+ when and if we have s third.

Things I think about when I'm trying to fall asleep.:P. @Worrywart:

I was AMA for both pregnancies. First time I was 35 and had no trouble conceiving. This time I was 37 when TTC and I actually had to go the fertility treatment route because my egg quality declined rapidly. More than one doctor said it was due to age. I had low AMH and evidence of poor egg quality. I'm not saying it happens to everyone at all, just giving you my experience. Eventually, I did get pregnant with clomid. We were just about to start IVF!

I conceived and delivered LO #1 at age 35, I turn 37 next week and will start TTC #2 in the next few months. I got pregnant right away with my first pregnancy and my doctors often said things in passing like "well, since you're so young and healthy..."--which led me to believe that in my urban area 35 is on the young side!

I also found anecdotal experiences encouraging when TTC the first time. I also read the Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant, which has some great info debunking the conventional wisdom on fertility post-35, and found that comforting (and true!) as well.

Possibly, but it won't be for a while. Right now we are still undecided about a second, but we do feel pretty sure that if we do decide to go for it we want to wait until DS is at least 3 or 4. At that point I will be 35 or 36.

@meredithNYC: That's absolutely it. Sleep deprivation was so much worse the second time around, 2.5 years later....31 v. 34 felt like a big difference! I'm hoping #3 will be born when I'm 36. Plus, getting body back was a lot harder this time!

I don't think my eggs have shriveled up and died since turning 35 in july though ; )

I recently turned 37 and we're TTC #2. First one was conceived when I was 34 and born when I was 35. There are a number of women in my social circles and in my family who had their first in their mid-30s, so post-30 TTC seems like the norm to me!

Like @NorthStar, I'm in the IVF (#1) club. Despite my age (39), we need IVF for severe male factor infertility. Starting in my early 30s, I quizzed my MDs at each annual exam and they said I had plenty of time (and I lived in Europe where 40+ is definitely more the "older mom" benchmark)...but come to find out DH has some issues making swimmers which complicates things.

Possibly. We won't TTC again until I'm 33 and I'll only have a couple months until I turn 34 so it really depends on how long it takes. And then if we go for a 3rd, I will definitely be AMA.

I'm 37 and was TTC this past year, pregnant now! DS was born right before I turned 35 and this next baby will hopefully be here right after I turn 38. I've conceived easily every time, though I have had 2 losses - one when I was younger and one before this pregnancy.

Anecdotal experiences always encouraged me, and at my midwives practice a large percentage of their patients are AMA with no issues. Plus, most of my friends had babies in their mid-late 30s. Fingers crossed for all of you!

Going to start trying for #3 just short of my 35th birthday, so yes. Not too concerned about the pregnancy, but I really want to be DONE with newborns and sleep deprivation before I get much older. It's just a personal thing for me, though I'm sure there are plenty of "older" women who do just fine.
