We're in a big studio with a 19 month old and love it! His bed is next to ours, we turn off the lights at his bedtime and hang out in the kitchen. Talking doesn't wake him up, and we can watch videos if we keep the volume down.

Sleep training was impossible of course. I just had to get up with him every night so the wailing would not wake up DH. But I don't regret all the extra cuddles now.

The only downside now is that we do have to move eventually. In hindsight, it would have been better to move before he was born so he would not have to leave his home, friends and neighbors.

I was thinking of starting a thread about this, so thank you! We will be in our one-bedroom for at least 6 months after baby is born, so I'm appreciating all of these responses

Definitely possible! This is my SIL and BIL's current living situation with they 4-mos old and I think it will continue to be into the toddler years.

Also, Mrs. Markers and her family stayed in their one-bedroom condo when they had their baby and posted about their bedroom transformation here:

We did until LO was 10 months old. We put her in our bedroom and it wasn't even a very big room. The only thing was that we had to be organised with making sure that we had clothes for the next morning etc laid out in the living room before she went to bed.

When we needed to sleep train her, DH and I moved into the living room for a week and then as soon as she was sleeping fine we moved back into the bedroom. You can definitely do it!

I have a spacious 2 story, 2 bedroom condo but the layout was not ideal for a newborn to be in her own bedroom. The bedrooms are on different levels and I did not want to climb up and down the stairs all the time while recovering from my c-section. So we all slept in the master bedroom. Baby's crib is in the room too.

We did for the first two months of DS's life. We just set up his bed and dresser in our room. That said, we coslept until about 6 weeks with him, so it wouldn't have mattered if he had his own room at that time.

we do. her crib is set up next to our bed, BUT we co sleep so it didn't matter that we set up half the room to be hers.

We're thinking of putting up a bookcase divider and taking the living room so we can watch TV when she sleeps

We did! We would have had baby in our room either way. I used a dresser top for changing station and a small footprint crib (we got the stokke so it could easily be moved, no corners to bump into).

Have you thought about creating a separate space for your room in the living room and putting LO in the bedroom? I think that'd be easier if you want to be able to use te kitchen, living room while LO sleeps. Also if you happen to have laundry in unit, you might want to do that while LO sleeps.

Totally doable! We didn't have one in a one bedroom but were planning on two in a two bedroom at least in the beginning!

We lived in a 1 br for 8 months with the baby and it wasn't that bad. He stayed in a pnp or rnp next to my side of the bed for about 5 months. We had a small hallway where our water heater and our laundry is as well as a door to the bathroom. We put up a black out curtain and moved the pnp to the hallway and he was fine! There were even some nights where we ran the dryer while he was sleeping and it wasn't an issue. We had the white noise going and a little fan to maintain airflow. I'm not saying it was awesome but it's definitely doable.

We did not personally do this, but I have a *ton* of friends who do and make it work (hello, city living). Most have put up a divider in their room rather than the living room - one of my friends with a big walk-in closet actually turned their closet into a mini nursery. White noise is going to be your friend as your baby gets older - but he/she will be used to sleeping in close proximity to you, so I don't think you will have issues.

We didn't, but looking back, it would not have been an issue at all.

If you do decide to make a sleeping nook for your baby in the living room, you can always get a second TV or move the one from the LR into the bedroom. I did find it easier to have the baby in a separate area only because my husband had a difficult time leaving for work in the morning without waking up the entire apartment building, lol.

Even in our 3 bedroom house, we plan on keeping the baby in our room for the first few weeks/months. We will set up a pack and play and the top of a dresser use as a changing station and storage for needed baby supplies. Really the "nursery" is just used for storage and clothes at first which easily could be in our bedroom.

I'm currently living this reality! We have half of our room set up as a nursery, and it works just fine. We have a small swing and a foldable play mat in the living room, and her books and toys in the bedroom. It works for us so far! She is 10 weeks old :) She sleeps on a RnP beside our bed, but we are transitioning her slowly to her crib. If you'd like,I can send you pics of our set up! I think the key is to avoid bulky furniture.

Ad far as noise goes, we haven't had issues yet. I *don't* keep the house quiet when she naps, just maybe lower. Our TV issue has recently come at night, when she gets overtired and overstimulated. We have taken to turning off all noise, putting her to bed with the sleep sheep, then watching our shows in the living room. Seems to be working so far.

Let me know if you have more questions! Honestly, it is not bad. I may change my tune later, but for now, we are happy!

@pmrlady: I have lots of friends with a baby in a 1 bedroom, since in my area everyone lives in apartments/condos and space is at a premium. They all have the baby in their bedroom, although I have two friends that eventually put a big bookshelf in between the crib and their bed for sleep training purposes, but that was much further down the line--after 6 months or so.

Hello all,

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant. We live in a 1 bedroom apartment for now which is subsidized through my job. We will not be able to move before baby comes and probably not for another year after as we are saving up money to buy a house.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Where did you set up the crib, in the bedroom or the living room? Our living room is pretty big and we would be able to put a divider and make a separate space for a nursery but I''m concerned that we wouldn't be able to watch tv or talk when baby is sleeping.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
