@mrs. 64: i guess hood is the right term, but yes. Snaps on and off but we leave it on all the time. When DD needs a nap, we stick her on our front and snap the hood over and she's out. Used it last week for this very thing when we were out after bedtime for a food festival.

I think that's the really nice thing about wraps-- they are really versatile. You can hold baby in a wrap in pretty much any possible way you could hold them with your arms and hands, so you can find something that works for almost any baby. I haven't used a 4G and so won't comment there, but for carriers like that I would suggest seeing if you can find someone to borrow from. It stinks that that's not usually an option, but it is definitely also frustrating to get something that doesn't work out for you. Consignment stores can also often have great finds-- woven wraps are often a steal at those sorts of places because people usually don't even know what they've got-- I've seen some friends find $200+ wraps at consignment stores for $30! You can also find other carriers there, and might be able to find a 4G at a lower price that wouldn't make trying it as much of an investment. I really like the Bali Stretch Wrapsody wraps for starter wraps versus Boba or Moby just because they have a slightly longer lifespan as baby grows, and they are still pop-able and snuggly for those early days.

We had the boba wrap (loved it) and the 3G (love it and still use it at 13 months!) I personally think the wrap is more comfy for mama when the baby is that small...I did everything with her in that wrap for the first 6 months. And when I took her out, I would still leave the wrap on so I could easily stuff her back in. I looked like a crazy person but who cares. And I would put it on before I got in the car so that once I got to my destination I did not have to wrestle with it! After 6 months we switched to the 3G and it's been great!

@mrs. 64: I know nothing about the Boba, but I love the k'tan for the newborn stage. It's pretty easy to use! I would recommend it over the Moby which is more complicated (I have both). There is a used one for sale in the classified section here on hellobee for $15 so you wouldn't be out much if you didn't like it.

@Cole: I'm a little scared that I will be a bumbling idiot with wraps, but I never thought about picking one up used. At least that way if it doesn't work out I won't be out of a lot of money.

@Beehive: @scg00387: @Silva: Thanks for the feedback!!

@birdofafeather: Glad it has worked out well for you! Does it come with a sunshade? I couldn't tell from the description and I haven't been able to find it anywhere in person.

@mrs. 64: we have a 3G, and have used it almost daily since she was born a year ago. We absolutely love it. She napped in it when she was toy, it's easy to put on and adjust for me and my husband, and it's comfortable. I walked 5 miles with her on my back this weekend, no problem. It worked great when she was tiny, I had a k'tan and hated it because I was constantly having to adjust it.

@mrs. 64: yes I loved our boba! I had a moby as well but the boba was perfect for early days through about 12 months when he was super heavy and tall. Wall me with any questions!

I haven't used it with a newborn but I thought I would at least offer a little extra info. I prefer a stretchy wrap with newborns up until maybe 10 pounds, at that point I happily switch between the wrap and an ergo with infant insert which in this case would serve the same purpose. I like the Boba 4g but haven't used it a ton so long term I can't really say much.

It seems like around here $15 is the going rate for a Moby or a K'tan on craigslist or at consignment sales/shops. It might be worth looking to see if you can pick one up. They are obviously super washable so I wouldn't worry about germs or anything with that type of purchase.

All that being said, if you are definitely going to purchase just one I think the Boba will turn out to be a good choice. It will probably leave a few gaps in your baby wearing wants but I don't think there is a one carrier meets all needs.

@mrs. 64: I have a Boba and love it! I think it's the 4G (at least it looks like it - whatever carrier they had out at the end of 2012, so maybe it was the 3G).

I used it with my infant, and found it very easy to use. One thing that was very important to me was being able to use it easily on my own, i.e. put it on with the infant when it was just me. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use the Bjorn I received as a gift, and I found the Boba really easy to use and adjust. Also it was easy to switch between DH and me, which was great for when we were out or on trips, when one of us would carry DS for a while and then we'd switch.

I have no experience at all with wraps, but I found the structured carrier to be great.

@pelikila: Ugh, this is what is frustrating to me. This is my first baby and I have no idea what I will like or obviously what the baby will like. I want to have something on hand so we are not out looking with a newborn. I know a lot of bees buy/sell different models but of course I wish I could just find THE ONE! I'm glad you liked the Boba 3G though. I had kind of overlooked ring slings but maybe I should investigate them further.

I have a Boba 3G. I did not use it with an infant as I used a ring sling at that time. I plan to try my 3G with any second baby we may have but I also know I'm not a wrap kind of person. I loved my Hava ring sling and my Boba 3G. So much depends on your preferences, which you won't really truly know until you can try different carriers with your actual baby.

Does anyone have experience with a Boba carrier, specifically the 4G. I've been really wowed by all the positive reviews. I also like that you don't have to purchase a separate infant insert. Has anyone used it with an infant? I would like to use it for some hands free time in the house in addition to walks, etc. Do you think it is good for around the house? Will I regret not getting a wrap? I'm a total babywearing newbie! Help me out!
