@Cole: Thanks! I think I had read that in my mountains of research. I'm still so torn though! I'm hoping once I look at both in person/try out in my car, I'll just know what's right. Or that the salesperson will just tell me what to do (which I assume will be purchase the more expensive one :P)

I found this article to be the most helpful when deciding between a foonf vs a fllo, the safety mechanism is a bit different between the two and it sounds like the foonf is better if it will be outboard but that the fllo is a good option if it will be installed in the middle.

We will be buying one for this next baby once she's done with the bucket because I want to be able to put the girls side by side and I can't fit two Britax boulevards side by side in my car. The other narrow options aren't as appealing for various reasons (radian is too low imo and I want the option for extended rear facing.)

ETA the link!

The Cleks don't have unusually high safety ratings. Consumer Reports rates them both as "Better" for safety (on a scale of Good, Better, and Best). There are seats with a "Best" rating, including some very cheap Evenflow carseats (also the Chicco Nextfit, which I have and love). So a more expensive seat is not necessarily safer.

I moved my kids at 9 months, because they outgrew the seat in height, but they would both fall asleep in the car, and I liked being able to continue the nap without moving them. I did keep the seat in the car most of the time after about 4-6 months.

@Goldengirl: The Foonf has this huge underpiece (I can't remember the official name--detachable footer or something) that you use for rear-facing and then remove for forward facing. That's what makes it taller and heavier than the Fflo. The Fflo is the newer model, and I feel like they made some improvements--the Fflo doesn't have the huge bottom piece to fiddle with, so you can move it rear-forward facing a bit more easily. It still sits up tall but not quite AS tall as the Foonf. And then it has the flexi latch belts instead of the fixed metal latches. I've heard the flexible ones are easier to install.

Basically, I feel like it has all the same good qualities along with some improvements--plus the Fflo is cheaper, so that's another big plus for me. The seats themselves are almost identical.

We got a fllo because I huge babies, wanted to reface for a long time and don't own a car. I find the seat extremely easy to install in a number of different kinds of cars. Two of the cars we use often are old and don't have the kind of seat belts that stay tight.

We might end up needing a second depending because our second is going to need a big kid seat before lo1 is ready for a booster... Oops

@Goldengirl: I transition my kids out of the infant seat around 6.5-7 months, but they were both born in October so it's warm out when I transition them. Also, just because you have the infant seat doesn't mean you have to take it in/out of the car. Lately I've been leaving mine in the car (I'm waiting for my older daughter's new seat to come in so I can hand down the convertible to baby sister).

FWIW, I have a Graco MyRide 65 convertible seat and my big kid is getting a Graco Tranzitions harness-to-booster.

@Goldengirl: I like the Fllo better because it's not quite as tall (doesn't block my blind spot) and because it's slightly cheaper.

I switched both my kids around 10 months. No benefit to keeping them in longer other than it's portable if you can clip the infant seat into your stroller.

Cleks have a minimum age/weight for not using an infant insert (can't remember what it is), so that's the only reason I would wait if your babe doesn't meet the minimum requirements yet (save money).

I agree that all seats meet minimum safety standards BUT I do believe some seats are safer. Not that they're not all safe (when installed correctly of course).

Also, Cleks and Diono Radian are the only ones that fit three across I think, if that's a consideration for you.

Also is there any benefit to keeping babe in the infant seat for longer? It's just so heavy to take in and out and he seems like he's growing out of it, but he's only 6 months. When did you gals make the switch?

@Goldengirl: I think the foonf is taller but because it sits on a separate RF base, the angle is over the back of the seat in front of it, so it fits better.

@Anagram: why would you buy the fllo?
@Banana330: I've heard this too but don't get it since the foonf seems taller! Definitely a consideration though.
@QBbride: Why do you like the Fllo more? I don't fully understand the latch thing except that they imply the one with the foonf is safer somehow?

@Goldengirl: you can try them in your car at the baby store. I was surprised to find that the foonf fit better in our sedan (Chrysler Sebring) than the other options. Because it sat so high, it took up less room front-to-back than the other finalists (Diono Radian and Chico Nextfit). We have one for each of our kids and have been really happy with them. My 4 year old is still happily rear facing. They're easy to install correctly (once you get the hang of it), easy to clean and let my kids sit high enough to see out the windows.

We don't have Cleks, so don't feel as though if you don't get one, your child is any less safe! All seats sold in the US must meet the minimum safety requirements and the safest seat is one that is properly installed.

A car seat tech we know recommends the fnoof over the fllo as it saves rear facing space. We got the fllo in a mazda 3 sport and it's fine. Rear facing it was tight for the passenger but forward facing it's fine. It's nice an narrow, high up and DD has stopped screaming in the car now that she can see out the window!

We have Foonf and we really like it. We also have a Diono Radian if you are interested in a heavy-duty, but narrow, carseat that can rearface for years. We really like that the Foonf sits up high, and it takes up less space front-to-back than the Radian without the angle adjuster.

But if I were buying today, I would but a Fflo

We have a Clek Fllo and it's fine. I like that it's nice and high - our one year old can see out the window. I find it harder to buckle than our other seat (Peg Perego Primi Viaggio) because the strap on the between the legs buckle is really short. I like how firm the padding is, it seems both comfortable and supportive.

I have two kids so that's why we have two. When I bought the first seat they hadn't come out with the Fllo yet, otherwise I probably would have just gotten that one! I believe the main difference is the Foonf has a rigid latch system for forward facing (which seems sort of irrelevant if you plan on extended RF because I think the seat+child means you can only use it until the child is about 32 lbs (at least for the limit of the latch system in my car). *i think but I'm not a car seat tech*

There are quite a lot of posts about Cleks!

In short, they're AMAZING! We have a Foonf and a Fllo and honestly I like the Fllo as much (if not more) and it is cheaper. So I would get a Fllo.

I love that they're so easy to install, the harnesses tighten as smooth as butter, they allow for extended RF (due to the height/weight limits).

Downside is they sit a bit higher (especially the Foonf, which is probably why I don't like it quite as much) and they are very heavy (but I'm OK with it because I like that they have a steel frame).

We have a smaller SUV (Mitsubishi Outlander) and we have them both RF. If you look on the Clek website, the Foonf is actually a bit shorter back to front. But I would definitely try in your car to see how they fit before to buy.

And did you see they announced a new purple colour today? 😍

And do you like yours? I want the Foonf but it's sooo expensive. Want to make sure it's worth it. If you have it, what do you love (or not) about it? How is it in terms of size compared to others? They all look HUGE to me. We drive a compact SUV, so average size car... not tiny, not huge. Thought LO would be in the bucket seat way longer but I'm so sick of lugging that thing around and feel like he's already getting too big for it at 6 months! Ugh. So much money.
