Update: So the doctor checked me out. I did a bunch of tests (ultrasound, blood work, urinalysis, BP, temp). I don't think I've ever had that many tests done before. haha Everything seemed fine. TMI alert- She felt my uterus and we figured that the pain was from my uterus. Probably from the procedure.

I was put on a course of antibiotics just in case.

Anyway, I'm feeling better today.

@loveletter: I'm seeing the doctor today. They are going to do an ultrasound and a urinalysis to check things out.

@bluestriped bee: I just spoke to the nurse at my doctor's office and she said what I was describing was "classic". She said that the abdominal muscles will be sore after the procedure and that all the extra air and dye from the procedure can cause a lot of discomfort and pressure and it may take a couple of days to feel back to normal. I'm relieved - sounds like what you and I are experiencing is pretty normal. :)

@bluestriped bee: I'm so glad to hear that everything went well with your HSG! And I'm sorry you are feeling kinda crampy still. Yes, I wasn't really back to normal for a day or even two afterwards. Of course, mine was so painful during that I almost passed out, but that's another story! I actually rested the entire afternoon after the procedure and wasn't really up and about until dinner time. The next day/two I was still crampy (although not severe pain) and had discharge.

But I hope that this goes away quickly for you, and it probably is a good idea to talk to the Dr. if you are concerned. Again, I am so glad that you had positive results though! What a crappy procedure to have to go through to find out though, right?

@loveletter: You had it done twice? I don't think I could have done it twice. Mine was pretty painful. I'm glad your pain wasn't as bad.

Yeah, I am a little less worried that you have some pain, too. I did walk up the very step hill ( that I didn't think was that steep) but it turned out to be about 20 flights of stairs. I had to catch a bus to go to the procedure. So I've been trying to figure out if I was sore from that.

I called the dr but they put me on hold and then I got on the bus. I hung up because I didn't want to describe my pain for a bus full of people to hear.

It was definitely painful to sit up in the bed. TMI alert- It was even more painful when I went to pee.

Well, I'm on the bus headed to work. It doesn't hurt when I sit which is good. (I probably should have called out sick but I have meetings I have to go to.) It is a little painful to walk.

I'll call the doc again when I get off the bus.

@bluestriped bee: hey HSG buddy! Glad to hear yours went okay and everything looked good.. mine was okay too! Thanks for asking. Kinda painful and they actually had to do the whole thing twice because they were having a hard time getting the dye go to one of the sides, and then one of the instruments they were using fell out. It was cool seeing my insides on the screen though :)

I'm having weird abdominal pain too! I was feeling pretty good afterwards (it felt like mild period cramps-totally bearable) but later in the afternoon my stomach started hurting. At first I thought it was something I ate because it feels similar to how I feel when I eat something bad and am super gassy, so I took some tums, but after reading your post, I think it's pressure from the HSG. I feel a little less worried since youhave it too! I'm going to call my doctor when she gets in this morning just to be sure!

@Mrs Green Grass: @brownie: @dagret: @GreenThumb: @PBandBaseball: @kayakgirl73: @Tidybee: @jholler25: @SallyNy:

So for those of you who had it done, did any of you have lower abdominal pain about 6 hours after the procedure? I was fine until the 6 hour post procedure mark. Now I'm at 11 hours and I still have the pain. I'm getting a little worried after reading somethings on Dr. Google. I am going to call the doctor in the morning. I took some advil at the 6 hr mark but it didn't seem to help. I think I might have to take one of those 800 mg ibuprofen that I took before the procedure so I can get some sleep.

From Dr. Google: However, heavy bleeding, fever, abnormal vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain lasting beyond the HSG could be signs of more serious complications and should be reported to the office quickly. These symptoms are uncommon but could be associated with pelvic infection or uterine perforation. These conditions could require hospitalization and/or surgery, and could result in uterine scarring which may interfere further with your ability to conceive. The use of antibiotics is intended to minimize the risk of infection but cannot entirely eliminate the risk.

I'm glad the procedure went well besides the pain and cramping. Thanks for describing the process for us. I'm *hoping* my dr. will want to do an HSG after I go for my first official infertility appointment in July, so it's nice to know what it entails! Crossing my fingers that this is your month sweetie!!

Ok, I'm back. The procedure was really quick but the pain was intense!! It was really really bad cramps, well... cramp for me. (Never experience cramps this bad before. It was like one long (and intense) cramp! I was told that the procedure took 14 seconds but damn, it hurt! (And that was with 800 mg of ibuprofen!) I think I have a high threshold for pain, too. When I'm in pain, I don't scream. I was just really quiet. Didn't say anything. The doctor and the nurse said I did really well and it was really quick for me. They said my tubes looked fine and no blockage.

I've heard that contractions feel like really bad cramps. I seriously don't think I could deal with that pain or worse when I have kids. My plan to give birth without meds is changing. Ugh!

Anyway, they gave me a hospital grade maternity pad and told me that I might spot. (Oh, those maternity pads are nice and long.) TMI warning- I was spotting while getting dressed. Ewww!!!! Stupid me decided to wear white underwear and khaki's today. I don't think I'm leaking that much but I am a little worried and self-conscious, right now.

I'm fine now. I'm happy that my tubes aren't blocked. I certainly don't want to do procedure again. At least not anytime soon. Maybe in a few months when I forget how painful it was.

ETA: I'm having sporadic mild cramps here and there. It's not bad, though.

I've never had one, but I'm an xray tech and do them at work. It really is quite common for ppl to get pregnant soon after bc the contrast clears yours tubes out. So its a double whammy test- diagnostic and therapeutic :)

I had one and it hurt quite bad but it literally lasted for 15 seconds. It's a quick pain. I was almost knocked out from the pain but absolutely felt no discomfort after. Also, did you doctor prescribe an antibiotic for you to take prior? That's the only medication I recall taking.

It wasn't something I'd put under "Hobbies," but it wasn't that bad. It was uncomfortable, like some weird cramping...But nothing drastic. My dr said it increases your pg chances by over 30% in the several months following. I had it in October, got pg in Jan(cp), pg in Feb(cp), and then again in March with this baby that I'm now 14 weeks with....So I was pregnant in the 3rd cycle following the HSG...I'm not sure if the HSG had anything to do with it, but something opened up the floodgates bc we had bfns for 7 months and then bfps for 3 in a row. I STILL can't believe it!
