Both of my kids reacted to eggs in my breast milk, and they're both allergic to eggs too (and a whole list of other food allergies). They had excessive spit up, eczema, and mucousy green stool (with blood occasionally).

A similar thing happened to me and nuts. I would only eat them on occasion, and that's when I would notice bloody stool in LO's diapers. It took me a while to make the connection. Once I eliminated it, I didn't find anymore bloody stool. Maybe cut out eggs for a week or two to see if he improves.

Since your LO is only 3.5 months and you say you've cut dairy "several times"... how long are you cutting it for? It can take a full month of complete elimination to know if dairy is actually an issue.

I thought mine did. Eggs were one of the things that I eliminated based on a food diary (the others were dairy, soy, nuts, peanuts, and corn). Symptoms for everything were the same, basically fussiness and mucousy/bloody diapers.

Later, after I'd put eggs back into my diet (around a year) and we introduced eggs to LO, we actually thought she was allergic to them because she would vomit on weekend afternoons and like you, we only ate eggs on weekends. In our case though, it turned out that she was getting carsick. I know that's totally different, but I'm pretty sure my LO never had an egg issue at all. It's so hard to know though. Now she eats eggs almost every single day (she is 2).

@travellingbee: that she's not actually eating eggs. I have an egg intolerance per a blood test I did years ago so my ND recommend I try eliminating eggs.

@youboots: What does that mean? Secondary egg allergy? How did you figure it out?

Yup. She had awful diaper rash for the first 10 weeks due to a secondary egg allergy.

@travellingbee: yes, sort of. He began to tolerate small amounts in my breast milk around 14 months. I increased my own consumption from there. At two he could have tiny amounts in baked goods and at three he could eat some actual egg. By four we didn't really consider him allergic but I have a feeling that he still has some sensitivity it's just that his body is bigger so one egg is not such a large amount to make an impact. I do have to add though that a secondary symptom was that whenever he would have eggs his immune system was lowered and he would inevitably get a cold or virus. In retrospect the only small colds he had as an infant were when I accidentally had eggs.

My sister thinks my nephew has an egg issue. Poor kid is actually usually constipated, but if she eats eggs, he has explosive diarrhea.

Yes from about 5 or 6 weeks we noticed green poop and then a rash started to appear on his face and seemed to get progressively worse. The main thing was the poop though that was really bad on days I had eggs. DH was in med school at the time and we actually looked in one of his textbooks at pictures of EBF poop and determined it most resembled the food allergy ( as opposed to foremilk/hind milk imbalance). From there it was trial and error but I had a hunch after devouring a tray of brownies that eggs were the cause.

Not me, but my doctor recommended cutting dairy, nuts, and eggs .... I know that dairy and soy are typically the first recommendations, but she said that in her practice, she sees dairy, nuts, and eggs most often.

My LO has improved a ton since reducing dairy and eliminating nuts, so it looks like he inherited his daddy's nut allergy :( whomp whomp. I don't think it's dairy bc I still have it for 2/3 of meals. Hope you figure it out soon!

DS is three months old. We are still trying to figure out what he is reacting to in my diet. I've cut dairy several times with no real difference seen, even when I'm being super strict. He has days when he's better and days when he's worse even when I'm completely off dairy. One thing we've noticed, is that he seems to be worse on the weekends. He has more spit up and stomach pains. More diarrhea. He had blood in his poop the other day again. I am starting to wonder if it could be eggs? I have been eating eggs for breakfast on the weekends, and I don't during the week. Anyone have a baby who was sensitive to eggs while breast-feeding? What were the symptoms like?
