Our LO has very sensitive skin. What works for us is cloth wipes (with warm water), Seventh Generation disposables, and Aquaphor.

When we're out and about, I use Whole Foods 365 brand wipes.

@spaniellove: It was just very red and irritated....not sure if it was yeast! We started using cotton diapers (BG Elementals and flats) and the rashes would go away. No issues with Pampers Sensitive Swaddlers.

Nope but my LO had crazy reactions to BG 4.0s and BG newborns when she was younger.

@ShootingStar: I think we may go back to something similar - Aquaphor was like the only thing that helped!

@spaniellove: DD2 breaks out in awful sores if we use pampers swaddlers, but they clear up when we put any other diaper on her.

@spaniellove: I meant the wipes, not the diapers :). Cloth wipes are fantastic. I hate disposable wipes, but DS doesn't poop enough at home to warrant using them any more. The vaseline trick was recommended by my ped when we had AWFUL diaper rash - just slather it on after every change, all over the area. It creates a protective barrier from the poop and I'd assume from the diaper, too.

@ShootingStar: Briefly tried prefolds/covers and hated them, now using BG newborn diapers with a liner. I might have forgotten, what is the vaseline trick?

Which diapers are you using? Are you using cloth wipes? Those are so much nicer on baby's skin than disposables. Also, the vaseline trick I mentioned in the other thread will help protect his skin too.

@Mrs Green Grass: @T.H.O.U.: We actually have been using cloth wipes with RO water in a little spray bottle! I don't mind the extra laundry at all.

We had problems with raw oozing diaper rash for a while. We were able to continue using disposables but we switched to rinsing with warm water and letting the skin dry completely (BONE dry, lots of diaper-free time) before applying any cream and diaper. The only cream that didn't make things worse was triple paste (butt paste, etc made it totally blow up).

Its fairly common with the long list of ingredients in disposable that some babies have reactions.

If you ned to use the disposables for the creams, maybe try a homemade wipe solution (water, baby wash, etc mixed) to at least cut out those chemicals first. PS if you don't want to deal with washing cloth wipes, you could also use paper towels soaked in a solution.

Lots if diapers have perfumes that can irritate. You might also need to rinse wipes or use a wet washcloth instead.

My good friend's son could not tolerate disposables on his sensitive skin. She had to cloth diaper out of necessity...it was not in her plans at all so she got a diaper service. Some kids just have sensitive skin that reacts to disposables. He's 2 now and can tolerate a disposable. I guess it was just his sensitive baby skin

LO has had a diaper rash pretty much since the day we left the hospital. I thought it would go away and we've tried everything! The most awful part is the sores. I finally took him to the pedi yesterday and she said the sores were from the wipes we used in the hospital and that we scoured away his skin, which I found questionable but whatever.

I brought him home and switched him back from cloth to disposables so we could use the creams she prescribed and overnight the simple rash he had in addition to the two sores became sores EVERYWHERE. (Hadn't started the creams yet.) Okay, that is not overzealous wiping, and we weren't even using the same products as in the hospital!

Anyone have experience with their LO not being able to tolerate disposable diapers at all? Do you know what it stems from?
